New RPG coming.....

  • The island of GreedFall is a living, ever-evolving world. Your actions, from seemingly trivial choices to the most important political decisions, will influence and affect its course as well as the relationship between the different factions established on the island.

Not impressed with that trailer, looks like an obvious mash up of witcher and fable.

Oooh I like it!

I'm liking games that offer moral dilemmas more and more. I used to always choose the good options, but now I'm loving the evil options.

And people say that games don't groom serial killers. Pfft.

Interesting setting. It's like one part Witcher, one part musket era soldier.

If it's an open world game like a Skyrim I'm in, although reading this article, it seems more like an ARPG.

GreedFall is a new fantasy RPG inspired by Baroque art from 17th Century Europe.

Spiders, maker of 2016's The Technomancer and 2014's Bound by Flame, said it's trying to depict grandiose sceneries in muted warm colours and dark undertones. You can get a sense of the look it's going for in the teaser video, below.

In the game you, alongside other settlers, mercenaries and treasure hunters, explore a remote island where the locals, who are fighting off invading settlers, are protected by supernatural beings.

Spiders said GreedFall is about combat, but it's also about diplomacy, deception and stealth.

Here's the official blurb:
  • The island of GreedFall is a living, ever-evolving world. Your actions, from seemingly trivial choices to the most important political decisions, will influence and affect its course as well as the relationship between the different factions established on the island.
That's it for now. GreedFall is planned for release in 2018 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. One to watch.

I get a bad rap for being positive about things so i'll change it up.

Looks like a cash grab. Banking off success of other franchises. Absolute trash.

Here I was seeing the thread and thinking it was Titanfall adding pay to win.

I liked their last two games, Bound by Flame and Techomancer. AA type games to be sure but still enjoyable. I'll keep an eye on this.

I have to admit I was not even aware of this title before today. Now, I'm mildly interested. Who wants to to be Union's resident huckleberry and try it out for the rest of us? Viktor

I liked their last two games so I'll continue to support them. Definitely janky games but there's something to them that makes it still worth playing. Currently playing Dragon Age Inquisition right now though so might need a break from that type of gameplay before I get to this.

I loved Elex, which was also a janky RPG. Could be fun.

That was by piranha bytes right? I always get them and these guys mixed up because they seem to make similarly janky looking games, I've never played any of them though...

Right, who also did the Gothic and Risen series. The weird thing is with an unpolished RPG specifically, I always feel like things are less predictable. Going into a fight two hours in the opponent may drop a completely game breaking weapon - who knows? Keeps things interesting anyway.

One thing I liked about Elex is that you can get a jetpack right off, so there is an aspect of vertical exploration from the start.

One of my biggest gripes with a lot of games is that you typically don't get good gear until the end and so you get very little time to use it before completing the game. It sucks not getting a fun, powerful weapon until the final portion of a game. I get that in some cases a weapon could be so good it would throw off the balance of the game, but there are a lot of games where the weapons aren't really going to significantly sway the difficulty and for those games it's really lame when they gate off the best stuff until the end....

One thing I miss that I rarely see are games that allow you to replay using your character and super powerful gear, but without ramping up the challenge. It was so fun just breezing through a new playthrough in 5 hours by obliterating everything in your path.

Yeah, that used to be the basis of how new game plus worked, anymore it seems NG+ modes effect difficulty by default. Personally I play videogames more for the power fantasy than the challenge. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to give up on a challenge easily, but I prefer feeling like I just dominated a group of enemies rather than made it out by the skin of my teeth...

Being out in 11 days (releases september 10th), suppose it's looking rather good. Though this dev is pretty up and down on quality. A lot of discussion I see says they're looking forward to it, but are looking out for some sign it's actually horrifically busted.

With the companies ("Spiders") track record, that aint such a bad idea. Save for asscreed unity level bugs or the story being severely shallow, this is on the list.

hope the fix that cape though

Very interested, but going to wait a little longer. The reviews look good tho. Feel like Spiders has really stepped up with this one.
