Greedfall

Definitely seems like it's the dev's best most ambitious project. I don't know that I'll have time for this one as other releases are taking priority for me, but it's good to see the studio and game garnering such a positive reception on this one.

This is really good......I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a new RPG to get lost in.

Imagine this team with a AAA budget to develop with

Yeah I've hearing great things about this. Definitely picking this at some point.

Greedfall being a success would be great for the industry. It would show that AA games are still viable and hopefully it will give EA a kick up the backside and let Bioware going back to what they do best which is making epic single player RPG's.

I've got about 24 hours in game time on it. It's actually impressive that a studio of 40 people created it. Graphics are ok but the story is really good. Some of the dialog in battles are repetitive but that doesn't bother me that much. Voice acting is good.

I was looking for a decent rpg to play and it looks like I found it in Greedfall.

What RPG would you say it feels like?

Have you heard what kinda length the game is? As much as I love RPG’s tough for me to tackle long RPGs now days.

I'd say it feels like Knights of the Old Republic or Dragon Age. It's not a true open world game as far as that goes. I think what pulls people in is the story and how it tackles politics, race, and religion. There are some good plot twists too.

As far as length of game, I'm only 20+ hours in and feels like I've only scratched the surface. I'm also doing a ton of sidequest too and not just main story.

I played a little this weekend.

The Good:
Story isn't bad. Not going to set the world on fire so far but it is interesting.
Multiple ways to complete a quest. Lot of the quest have various way to complete it. Stealth, brute force or talking are all viable options.

The Bad:
Graphic are a bit of a let down. Looks like a title that could have been made a generation ago in places.

Meh:
Game plays like a Bioware game of the late 2000s. For better or for worse.

Greedfall nails the price point of 49.99 USD. It doesn't seem to be on the Dragon Age or Witcher levels but its not terrible. Goning to play throug some more and get a better feel for the game.

Thanks for all the impressions, will have to check it out at some point. How are people liking the combat?

I've spent a bit more time with it. I'm probably close to 10-12 hours in, but really have only been exploring, doing side quests, and developing my character. I'm really enjoying it.

As others have said, it isn't really a true "open world". Each section is linked together via fast travel, but while a section is loading you are transported to a camp site with a traveling merchant, so you have the opportunity to rearrange/equip your party, buy/sell items, etc. Another nice feature is that quick travel areas are abundant, so if you have to jump back and forth between as a diplomat between two parties, you can do so very quickly, basically from door to door.

One other point is that I have yet to experience any game breaking bugs. The worst thing I have encountered is that when you run into certain groups of enemies they have an invisible barrier on the map where they engage in combat. If you accidentally stray outside of this area while in combat everyone suddenly goes into "peaceful mode" where you can't fight the enemy and they won't fight you really. The issue here is that when this happens the enemy rapidly regains health and armor, as do you, but it "resets" the fight. Unfortunately it won't reset all the potions, items and ammo you burned through, so it can be very frustrating. It isn't the end of the world - you just have to regroup and start the fight again being mindful of the area you can be in (which isn't marked).

Finished Greedfall last night. Its a mixed bag. Let me start with the good.

Good:
1. Story. The story of colonialism in fantasy genre's is hardly ever touched upon and Greedfall's use of it is very unique.
2. Side quests. Finally another RPG maker is taking notes from the Witcher 3 and making side quests that are worth a damn. Now while not on the level of the witcher's side quests, Greedfall's sidequests are unique in the fact that most if not all of them tie back into the main quest and/or story-line. They also flesh out the characters, factions and their motivations. I came away very impressed with their implementation of side quests.
3. Choices matter. Unlike similar games within the genre that give the illusion of choice, the choices you make in the game matter. Some show up immediately, others not for hours. They affect the way you companions view you, the way the other factions view you, what quests show up and how the game ends.
4. Price. This game at 49.99 USD is priced just right.

The Bad:
1. Graphics. I played on PC at 3440x 1440 with everything maxed out. The game supported ultra-wide natively ( đź‘Ť ) but the actual graphics looked dated. Nothing in the game looked like it was born in the X1, Ps4 generation.
2. Combat. Combat was very hit and miss. Fable like qualities with dark soul like tendencies. Alot of dodging and parrying. Spiders didn't seem like they got the best from either game.
3. The Ending. The ending is serviceable but lack luster and seemed to be rushed.

Meh:
1. Voice acting was ok but nothing really stood out.
2. Boss fight are either tremendously easy or mind numbingly hard.

My understanding is that a team of less than 40 worked on this game. That is an achievement in itself for relatively how good this game came out. I never hit any game breaking glitches and it kept me entertained until the end. I can only imagine had the game been backed by a big money publisher that funneled alot of money, staff and resources into the game we could have been talking about this as a rpg of the year type game. That said the developer Spiders is getting better with every game they release. 2-3 releases from now they may have a massive hit on their hands if they continue.
