Do we have anyone playing GT6?

Thought we could have a discussion and race snaps thread. Share your races/pics/praise/complaints! Talk about patch news, car additions etc..

I'll get the ball rolling (hopefully) with a few of my own shots.

Haven't played the game in probably three weeks or so. Mainly stopped due to other games and watching the Australian Open. Hope to find time to play it again soon as it's a great game.

I've been squeezing photos/races in here and there - and doing the Seasonals when they are made available, every chance I get.

Not playing as much of it as I did with say, GT5, but that's purely because I'm juggling PS4/Vita as well as other PS3 backlog at the moment.

Looks nice. I don't have the game just yet. How was it? I played GT5 too death and I loved it.

Do you think this would ever get ported to the PS4? My PS3 died, and I really wanted to have this game :(

Nope, but yes. I'm sure GT7 will be 90% GT6 when it hits :p Seriously though, I doubt it will get ported.

Well, if anything I guess I could try it on Playstation NOW if they do that, albeit looking like ass.

To be brutally honest, it's more like GT5.1 than it is a GT6. It's the game GT5 should have been. Menus have vastly improved (read: they're actually user-friendly now), the Paint Shop has had a massive overhaul (actually works properly now and they've addressed all the user complaints with GT5's system), Tuning is much more user-friendly, Online Lobbies and custom race settings much improved (and netcode seems more solid too), graphics are on par with GT5 (they've fixed smoke and particle effects on wet/dirt/snow circuits, but it's at the cost of shadows and such) but there's also some stuttering and framerate dips that are quite unwelcome on a number of tracks. Most people say the load times are better, but the load times are about the same IMO (it loads you straight into the track now, very quickly, but you then have to wait for 30+ seconds while all the opponent cars load in). The sound is just as mediocre as GT5 and the A.I. is my biggest complaint - it's the worst it's been in the series (they dart all around the track; drive off-line only to side-slam you when you try to pass, they switch between off-line and apex in the middle of corners, they weave on straights - presumably to stop you drafting, but they don't lose any speed either and there's some evident rubber-banding this time too)..

They're doing some good things with special events. Goodwood inclusion, Moon missions, The new Vettel 2014 challenge, but there's no new hypercars; no Lambo Veneno, no La Ferrari, no McLaren P1, no Veyron Supersport.. the list goes on.

GT6 is also waaaaaaay easier than GT5. I've lost maybe 3 races in GT6 total. And they've all been kart races. Everything else, including license tests are super easy now. I'll be 3 seconds clear of the Gold time on my first run in license tests. Even the recently released SebVet X2014 series, I beat Seb on my first go - with a shabby lap I definitely wasn't proud of - for the Gold time. If you played GT5 you'll remember the SebVet challenges; they took me probably a hundred tries to Gold. The challenge has definitely gone in GT6.

One of my ongoing complaints with GT as a series is the lack of racing liveries. We still can't add so much as a racing stripe to our cars, let alone proper custom trims - but that's not a complaint of GT6 directly, more of the series as a whole.

I know I sound negative, but GT6 is an improvement on GT5 in a lot of areas. I put probably 500+ hours into GT5 and eventually got Platinum. I've put maybe 40 hours into GT6 so far and I'm almost at completion.

The driving physics are the massive improvement though. They're the best they have ever been. They are sublime actually. And thankfully, I prefer the Time Trials and Seasonals in GT games anyway, so I've been enjoying it for those.

Sorry for the long rant haha.. It's a worthy buy, it really is. It just doesn't do anything ground-breaking over GT5.

I'm looking forward to GT7 on PS4 - hopefully we see a proper overhaul that the series needs.

Are they still using that damn mouse cursor on the main menus?

the Paint Shop has had a massive overhaul (actually works properly now and they've addressed all the user complaints with GT5's system)

So no more of that paint chip bulls***? Do they give you all colors right away now?

there's some evident rubber-banding this time too)..

Is that only on easier setting I hope?

The driving physics are the massive improvement though.

I haven't played GT6 sadly. But I have been following the GTplanet.net forums, and it seems the physics are not very good. I wonder why the discrepancy?

Haha, yes - but it's almost flawless now thanks to the GUI layout.

You still have Paint Chips, you still earn them from buying cars (with 'x' paint colour) or you win the special colours from Seasonals. What's changed though is application; You can preview a paint chip without having to use it and chips are unlimited use now.

Across the board. It's most noticeable in the karts where you hit max speed in identical karts to your opponents, yet they'll still accelerate away from you (and it's not drafting). It's also noticeable in the last lap of events when the AI times drop off significantly.

Absolutely no idea. I find control and feedback massively improved. Steering is more reactive and you're able to save skids/moments with the right application.

I'd actually thought reception was quite positive regarding the handling improvements and overall physics tweaks, but maybe that's changed.

Personally, I'm very satisfied that it's an improvement over GT5 though.

So Gran Turismo 6 is the game that GT5 should have been? They finally got it right at Polyphony Digital. That's always good to know. It just feels like it's a day late and a dollar short. I don't have any interest in playing GT6 and i'm a big fan of the franchise. I even enjoyed GT5 while just about everyone hated on it.

Why GT6 was released on the PS3 is baffling to me. I get the whole idea of selling to the established market but come on. It's Gran Turismo 6 we're talking about. Sony's flagship franchise. You're telling me that wouldn't sell on the PS4 when the Quad is flying off the shelves?

Day late and a dollar short is spot on. Seems to be Polyphony's way these days, sadly.

Obviously they went for the "bigger user base" option - and arguably, it's a fairly sound concept when you consider the sales that Grand Theft Auto V has amassed for example, but it's also a reflection of Polyphony's arrogance on their position in the market. And clearly, interest in GT is waning in the market they thought they had.

People have been complaining for two-three iterations of the series now that its losing its appeal. Maybe it's finally going to wake them up when they see depleted sales.

I can't honestly see GT6 having fared any better as a PS4 title though. It's got what - 1.5 million copies - less? Sold through. I'd have been very surprised if a PS4 GT6 was doing any better at this point. The problem remains - it's still GT5 mark II. Most of the big issues are still there. It's almost the same core game we've been playing since GT3. Sure, it's a solid format, but it needs to grow. It needs to embrace community features.

I had a bunch of races with my mate (us in the pics) and it was great fun.

Career is boring/soulless as ever, but online is still massively enjoyable.
