I still don't know why people think they are going to get rid of the payment requirement to play online, they are still selling game pass ultimate 12 month memberships which includes online MP, they are also showing gold required for MP games they announced last week. I still think they are just going to get rid of gold and make you buy GP ultimate at some point but not stop charging for online play, that's the only reason they are even still in the gaming business. If it weren't for Gold xbox probably wouldn't have made a dime. I know some think it's a good move to try to get Sony to basically lose a ton of money because they make so much from PSN but that won't happen, MS were the first to charge for online MP, they let the genie out of the bottle there and nobody is putting it back in. I can see them dropping the gold requirement for F2P games, Sony never has charged to play free to play games online and this is one area where MS comes off as being more anti consumer.

I don't know, all my online games, I play for free, on my PC.

There's too much smoke at this point for them not to drop paid online.

Smoke? people just keep retweeting the same person over and over it's not like "Multiple sources confirm" kind of thing, you can still buy 12 month gold subs on amazon btw and they are still selling 12 month GP Ultimate subs.

One guy on twitter who originally had said "free to play halo only makes sense if they drop the requirement for gold to play F2P games" went from that to being sure they are getting rid of it. He points at fortnight and talks about how much money Epic makes from that as a reason, well first you need a game that can do that, most F2P games aren't fortnight and wouldn't make up anywhere near the loss that they'd get from getting rid of gold. Also does anyone want Halo to be something full of paid skins etc? I am 100% on board with them dropping the gold requirement to play F2P online games, that never should have been there to begin with, they had to be shamed into taking Netflix out from behind the gold paywall for crying out loud.

Looks like it is F2P and 120fps, that's great for people who want to play it and it PROBABLY/HOPEFULLY means they'll finally take F2P games out from behind the paywall, F2P games always have other monetization angles though so get ready to pay for skins etc. This also still doesn't mean a thing regarding getting rid of the paid MP requirement for non F2P games though.

There we go, hopefully it supports cross-progress between platforms.

I'm sure it will but people who don't have a series x will complain that it's not fair that their version doesn't run at 120fps, it's a stupid complaint to make but there will be people making it you can be sure of that.

well yeah but that's ok if it plays good.

If it maintains 120fps nobody should complain, honestly I would think 60fps with better visuals (they'll be downgraded from the campaign that's running at 60fps) would be the better choice but I'm also fine with most games being 30fps so I'm not looking at it through a competitive MP player point of view.

Man I really hope BTB in Infinite is a return to form. No forge maps, please.

some of the btb forge maps were aight, the sight lines were really good, if they could make them legit themed maps in infinite I’d be ok. Just hope they keep btb super fiesta, my fav. Oh and swat

In regards to the 120 fps advantage, there's no parity today. In order for true parity, you'd need to be able to detect the latency of the input devices people play on, proximity to servers, controllers used...and hell, even our ages. I use the Elite controller and I feel while not quite the same advantage as mouse and keyboard, it's a distinct advantage over standard controllers. On the flip side, wish I was sitting closer to Azure servers. Wish my internet wasn't s***. Wish I could see how I stack up to other gamers past their prime. Bottom line is Halo just needs to have good matchmaking and some filters. With a monster player base, they should be able to have that that.

I was playing Halo Reach on the X tonight. Felt a bit inspired after all this Halo talk. I've played a lot of enhanced BC games since the One X launched but Reach doesn't hold up as well technically as other games did at 4K. Not in terms of textures. In contrast, Gears 2 felt like a current gen game at 4K. Reach is still interesting to look at due to the skyboxes and art. I'm hoping Infinite is able to capture some of the classic games in terms of making interesting looking environments. Getting back to Reach gameplay really brought me back to what I saw in the Infinite demo. Outside of a few levels (like Swords of Sanghelios) open sandbox areas have been missing from 343 games and I'm really looking forward to this return to more dynamic play areas. One gameplay aspect that is severely frustrating in Reach is the friendly AI. One of the areas that's supposed to benefit most from the Slipspace Engine is the AI. I'm looking forward to them showing this off at the harder difficulties. If it's an evolution, it could take Halo gameplay up another level.

When playing Halo 5 I remember thinking that I would sacrifice visual fidelity if it meant wider areas, better AI and the ability to pack areas with more enemies and stuff going on. Halo is remembered fondly due to it's gameplay, art and lore. As long as they can nail the sandbox and AI, I'm ready for whatever they have at launch.
