Maybe, but I think they need to completely begin from scratch on a new engine. They've been using the same components since Halo CE in many regards.

They’ve built a new engine. The Slipspace engine. If they built the game with the Series X in mind, there’s loads of things devs can do to still release a cross gen game on a potato.Graphically things can be toned right down, not to mentionat least 4 x lower resolution. I think the main way cross gen games would hold next gen games back is AI and physics. Graphically they can make astonishing looking games run at much lower settings and res to run on last generation consoles.

You're correct, for some reason I was under the impression it was an evolution of the engine used since H2. I guess because they've talked about "new engines" in earlier games in the series and that turned out to essentially being the same engine I draw the conclusion this was the same.

I stand corrected.

You’re right though, the engine did need changing. It really wasn’t good enough for current gen, let alone next gen. I’m looking forward to seeing what this new engine is capable of and wonder if other first party studio’s use it in the future.

I thought Halo 5 campaign was one of the better looking games this gen.

While I think Halo Infinite will look great I believe it will have concessions for split screen. They will be at least doubling everything. What if it was 4 person split screen? Even bigger downgrade right?

halo 5 was a great looking game, still is and it's fun.
We should play some breakout!

Halo 5 on One X looks great (except the 360 lvl animation), but it looked pretty underwhelming at launch imo. Not a great generation entry graphically.

I would love it if they could actually make the graphics look this good on Infinite with 10 x the power of the Xbox One. I remember actually believing Halo 5 mp would look this good in the E3 2024 trailer 😂

I'd think that's entirely possible in regards to the power at hand. But considering it being a cross gen title and the fact that Halo hasn't impressed graphically since Halo CE, I doubt it.
I remember this trailer, and forgot all about how high my expectations were after seeing it. The main things that stood in the way of putting this level of immersion in the game was always lighting and animation, IMO.

Was already quoting the other earlier posts, but you called it out there already. Animation... I feel like it's the real thing that's missing from current gen, but people just don't know it yet. That Halo 5 cutscene trailer is proof of this. This begs the question: Will nex gen level animation be held back by this gen, or can it be scaled down? It seems to me that as long as the amount of time that an action takes is the same, it can be scaled down. Are there tools for scaling animations, though?

Does anybody have any information on this?

But that is like saying people with a high end cards will lose out with the most popular cheap budget graphic cards?

It has proven time again it doesn't. When you look at the ps5 add, those with the ps5 will lose out more times not using that add because they are not going to develop a game around that when it is only that hardware.

That is a day and night difference in how the game functions.

RDR2 is on all at forms and look how the Xbox One X looks!

OK, but can you give an example of better animation on one particular console or PC spec? That's what I'm asking. Actually, it gets further complicated when you throw in online compatibility. That's why Halo in particular makes me wonder about this.

Unless Ai prediction gets way more advanced, animation is a tough one to crack if you want tight control. you have to design it around precision and reaction. Realistic movement takes time to show and people will say its sluggish. You have to take timing for footwork and you have to plan weight shifting ahead in real life. People dont accept that loss of control as an excuse.

They could do more immersive movements like reactions to events or when the ai spots enemies and show changes in posture or something. More dynamism in the animation system would be nice.

The problem with Spartans in Lore though is they would absolutely seem like robots to the regular human.

Lots of Halo rumors below. No story leaks, but minor potential spoilers. These are mostly about mechanics, gameplay, weapons, etc. Again, just rumors!

Why is it in the gaming industry insiders that they fear of getting sued or losing their person on the inside when talking about photos or video they may have seen? When ign, bloggers or just random fans who see stuff at Comic-Con and post what they see in detail it’s ok, like those special screenings that are just for those in attendance, why don’t they get any flack?

neat bits of info though

Man, I e been catching up on the halo books. Some interesting developments for sure. And Guilty Spark has had some very intriguing developments that I'd love to see in infinite.

Stinkles? Isn't that Frank O Connor?

Yep.

I post at Era a lot and recently there seems to be anxiety regarding Xbox from a large segment of regulars. Same anxiety I was seeing from Xbox fans leading up to the PS5 reveal...but there's way more Playstation fans. Way too much s***-posting and revisiting how Xbox is ruining next gen...as if any one company had the power to do that. Would be nice if gamers could watch shows as gamers and not as a sport of "who won?"

Back to Halo...I'm now believing that despite being cross-gen, it will be the most next gen game within the launch window. Reason for so many devs is that they have developers exploiting advantages and differences for the Series X. Halo Infinite may have a similar impact that BOTW did for Nintendo.

Im hoping Halo brings us this elusive next gen moment, heck I'd take MC blasting his way through a corridor of baddies before it opens up to a massive space fight happening overhead with a big ground battle happening too, but all in epic detail.

I really hope they give us unexpected gameplay changeups like that. I hope they take some risks with campaign scenarios .

I'm optimistic because in addition to have so many years to work on it, as well as a huuuge budget, they've really got some great characters set up to be something special. I'm ready to fight Atriox.

pull a brutal legend and add rts elements?

atriox seems like the perfect choice for a baddie but not for infinite, maybe he can come out near the end and ruin cortanas plans opening up some portal sending the three into a new alternate universe and time where it could all start new
