I agree with that. It feels like the demo was farted out. I've read before that E3 demos are a pain because you have to carve out a peice and take away dev resources to button it up. Maybe they didn't want to spend too much time on it.

Any way you slice it, they should have at least shown one big moment to get the people hooked. I wonder if they were planning on showing it differently and when the first MS showcase got lambasted for not showing gameplay they thought that would be the way to go.

It's also possible there is a lot to spoil, so they dont want to ruin anything.

Regardless, they should certainly know better for sure..

They are. I've tried to explain this to the forum from a contractor who's been making assets for 2 decades. Unfortunately the explanation turns into "damage control" because this forum has become more obsessed with winning plastic wars debates than actually discussing anything with nuance.

Vertical slices don't represent the game as it is. Most vertical slices are duct taped together on machines with higher specs than the consoles. They do this to show their target knowing that when its on the actual hardware, it will be more optimized. The actual games look like s*** until the final 6 weeks prior to going Gold. What we saw was in fact confirmed to be a vertical slice put together by a separate team on a non final dev kit.

The most troubling thing about the demo from a devs standpoint was that it was shown like that at all. He said if they didn't have the bandwidth to put more resources into their most important demo, then how far behind are they? I think we got some of our answer this week.

I already included articles confirming that God of War looked like s*** according to Yoshida 6 months before release despite showing an incredibly polished vertical slice the year before.
Ironically if 343 knew they were going to aim for late 2021 for final release, they likely would've been able to dedicate more resources to the vertical slice and show it better.

Bottom line is that while we've now got confirmation that the game is lagging behind, we don't know what the final version will look like. A couple devs have mentioned that the 2018 engine demo is the target and those assets exist. It's just a matter of whether they can get it to run on Series X looking like that.

They could have just had a trailer

It didn't show well. No arguments. I'm surprised that the execs at Microsoft didnt look at that and send it back...but I guess thats not their style anymore. Long term, hope that works out for the best.

As a positive, showing as much as they did allowed them to gather a lot of feedback. On gameplay and art, not just the technical stuff. There's a real chance this situation turns to their favor if Halo meets expectations at launch.

No you didn't.

Exactly.

You are a turd. What excuses? I said it’s good that it was delayed and that the game didn’t look finished in some areas.

Just stop being a turd ok?

I made the poinet 343 had plenty of time and there was no excuse for it's delay. It's my fault you half quote and cherry pick sentences. 😂

Sorry, but it is correctly stated “It’s not my fault Halo did not impress.”

Unimpressed is an adjective, not a verb.

Good for you. 😂👌

I guess I missed your impressions.

Yup

I will agree with this. What 343 needs to do is get the guy who did the lighting for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and have him work his magic.
I was just watching a Flight Simulator vid and thinking the same thing. The lighting in that game sells the whole package, IMO.

Agreed, where was the grass swaying in the wind in the gameplay demo?!

On the hill with the warthog?

*edit to add

just watched it again, and when the pelican doors open you see the grass before the ramp, with the creatures running about, you can see the grass sway

Pretty far? How about they are 2 different products.

This was the problem for me. They set expectations that was completely different to what they showed. Halo was never a looker graphics wise but knowing it was on a new engine and from the teaser trailer from 2018 I was expecting a complete different look. Imagining something like Halo using the Unreal engine or something similar. Apart from the lighting issues I think the demo looked okay but with the expectations set, it just didn’t come close to what I was expecting. That expectation was because of the teaser and that is down to MS/343.
