Halo: The Master Chief Collection coming to Xbox One this year, collects Halos 1-4

Master Chief is getting a facelift with an HD collection of his exploits. We've learned that Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 are being collected in a Master Chief-focused HD remaster coming from Microsoft. Our sources say that the set will zero in on Halo's most famous soldier to refresh audience's memories ahead of Halo 5's release, so curiosities like Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach likely won't be a part of the package. The game's developer is unknown at this point, but considering that Saber Interactive handled Combat Evolved Anniversary and is also working on an unannounced Xbox One project, the team is a likely suspect. Also unclear are plans for digital distribution, resolution and frame-rate (Microsoft bragged that will run at the next Halo will run at a "blistering" 60fps), piecemeal releases, or if the games will surface on other platforms as well (PC, anyone?).

Microsoft has gone on record saying that it would love to have Halo release more than once every three years. Its used different developers to fill that task since, but we're still pushing two years since Halo 4 launched. To commemorate the first game's tenth birthday, Microsoft released Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary for the Xbox 360, which served as a stop-gap for the 343 Industries-developed Halo 4; there's precedent for this sort of thing. This remake makes a lot of sense for Redmond for a couple of different reasons: it satisfies the more-frequent release desire and it helps fans get caught up on the story. It also gives them the chance to re-experience some of the best console shooters with better looks and sound -- everyone wins!

Whoa....this was also rumored back in January, I believe. I didn't put much stock in it then but now, who knows. This would jibe with the MP of Halo 2 being Halo 4 MP with Halo 2 maps. Would be insane if the collection included all of the maps release for Halo 1-3 (including PC maps; with Halo 4 gameplay). That would be A LOT of maps. Maybe X1 gets the Halo 1-4 collection and 360 just gets Halo 2A (since HaloCEA and Halo 3 and 4 are already 360 native)? This E3 is going to be VERY interesting to say the least. If this is true, how long have they been working on this? Seems like a sh*t ton of work.

This would jibe with the MP of Halo 2 being Halo 4 MP with Halo 2 maps.

For 2 yeah but seems like more work than its worth for the others. They arent really going to remake 4 games.

there have been rumors of remaking 2-4 for months, this just adds in the first Halo
so it has been expected.. originally called war chest or something like that
and it will sell systems.. just read the forums on this rumor.. people are going nuts.. in a very good way

I guess it's possible that all the Halo games will look like Halo 4 on 360 but even more pretty thanks to X1. I really hope it's not just Halo 2 from the first Xbox, but just in HD.

originally it was multiplayer for Halo 2 and I believe just single player for 3,4
but now if Halo 1 is in the mix.. who know... I guess we will be waiting on E3, or perhaps not
as this might be another one announced early

That would be awesome. We'll have to wait and see yeah. But wow....i am very very surprised about Microsoft these last few days.....lots of announcements and it's not even E3. Man.......all this already and who knows what else during E3, wow.

Sounds cool, though I wouldn't consider this a system seller unless it included full online multiplayer for Halo 1 or Halo 2.
If it's just the single player camp again along with a spiced up Halo 4 multiplayer, it would still be cool, but not quite a system seller.

No, this is not official. It was rumored way back in January, I believe (not gonna dig it up). I'd say with today's announcement clearing the decks, its a 50/50 chance between this and H2A by itself. We do know that something Halo related is coming this year and these are the 2 best guesses/rumors that are likely to come to fruition.

EDIT: Holy sh*t, good find BADguy! Yeah ntkrnl was that original leaker. So he's saying two different SKUs:

1. Halo 2 HD - Beta access to Halo 5 (says December for beta but that seems way off...almost a year before release?)
2. War Collection with Halo 2 HD and ports of Halo 3 and Halo 4 (so no Halo 1 at all). Also comes with beta access.

Plus that house of games e3 picture is almost like a hint that this could even be true.... As House of Games could mean 1-4 Halo collection..

Its possible though I mean Valve did do a Orange Box on 360. So Xbox One definitely can do a collection of that size caliber so I wouldn't say its impossible.
