Save a few more bucks and get the 900E by Sony. Will run you $600 more but so worth it.

Of the 2 you've chosen, I'd say go with the Samsung. Seems to be the better tv. Better black uniformity than the LG.

Current: 1080p 65in Samsung
Want: 4K HDR, obviously, 65in and under $900

Some guidance would be helpful in helping me select a new TV. Here are a couple I am currently looking at.

The LG is priced at 650 while the Sammy is 900. The LG's price point is very enticing but if the quality is bad then obviously I wouldn't get it.

May 1st the TCL 6 Series will be released and is your best bet.

Wait for new TCL reviews. I have one, 605, and it’s the best bang for the buck, and TVs that are $2000 can’t compete with it.

I wouldn't get any TV from Walmart anyway. Many times they sell stripped down versions of TVs with the exact same look and price of certain TVs elsewhere, but with removed features. They sometimes have model numbers on the TVs that sell that no other sites/stores carry where you can look up their specs and see for yourself.

I'd avoid the LG budget TV. I bought a cheaper one myself and the HDR is lacking. While it was a massive jump from my 50" 720p plasma, I wish I would've waited and spent $300 extra now.

I'm a fan of the Sony 900e for features and great reviews. I'd imagine new model coming soon so maybe a good deal on it. Curious on the new TCL model but hate the wide legs.

I'm very happy with the 930E, it looks like it beats the 900E in every category and the 900F in all but motion because that has some new tech. The motion handling is already great on the 930E so I get that plus better local dimming and HDR. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these sets though.

900F is better in gaming and motion.

Anyway for the 900F/930E price range... Samsung has a 2018 Q8 model and that would be a better option if all 3 are priced the same.

I checked out the 930E and found the 900E to look better. Other reviews I have read said the same thing because of the array lighting.

The 900E literally destroys my year and a half hold Vizio M70 that was HDR and 4K. It is literally night and day.

The X900F legs though... why? What happened to just regular ass boring stand and not stupid ones like that or the really wide ones. Idiots.

They are basically the same with input lag and HDR is better on the 930E. The in motion thing is a bit of a wash, there is no issue with motion on the 930E at all, it was very highly rated for it's motion handling last year. As far as the Q8 I haven't read any real reviews on it yet, the Q9 is getting good reviews but it has a lot more dimming zones than the Q8.

The Q8 has over 200 zones which is far more than above mentioned Sony's.

Screen uniformity issues in black scenes alone with the 930E would cause me to rank it last behind the Q8,900F and 900E.

I guess it depends on which review you read when it comes to 900E vs 930E, hell most of the reviews of the 900F say choosing between that and the 930E should be to basically choose which one is cheaper because they are a wash.

Yeah the Q8 has more zones than the Sony FALD sets, that's why the 930E can compete with and surpass those sets even though it's edge lit, of course it's not a standard edge lit set so that changes things a bit too. There are more simulated zones on the 930E than real zones on either the 900E or 900F.

I'm not able to find many reviews on the Q8, most of the Samsung reviews I've seen have been for the Q9 which has a lot more zones than the Q8. Sadly the Samsung sets won't have dolby vision so it remains to be seen if HDR 10+ is adopted by movie/game makers in the future.

The Q8 has more zones than the above mentioned Sony tv's but not more than the 940E and the Z9D.
Lack of Dolby Vision is a killer for me as is the brand but id take it over any OLED.

I got bad info.... The Q8 actually has around 40 Zones.

Yeah I thought 200 sounded high for a mid-range set.

The Q9 sounds like an awesome set though, too bad they are only releasing the 55 inch in Europe, I don't know why companies limit sizes of sets to certain markets like that, if they are already making them they may as well release them everywhere. You are right though, the lack of dolby vision is silly, they need to just pay the fee and jump on board so these standards can be unified.

me personally I prefer Samsung I have had 2 of them they have never let me down, my last one was almost 4 years old still works like a champ and I used it a lot mainly video gaming.

My Mom has gone through 2 Samsung sets in the last few years, both of them died multiple times. They had this issue where the power would just keep turning on and off over and over. The repair guy said that's a common thing with Samsung sets or at least it was at the time.

I like a lot of what they are doing though, that one connect box is a great idea, it's just too bad they don't do it for all of their sets.

strange my only issue with mine was when I first got it it had some weird splotchy bits on the screen like it was on the screen behind the outer screen and I took it back and got another one and it had it too but in a different spot. so I took it back got my $$$ back and went to a different store that had the same model and it was perfect and that was the one I still have to this day 4 years later now it is in the guest room in the basement in place of a 10 year old Toshiba LCD. My brother had that off on issue with his LG, if it was cold from being off it would not stay on till it was warmed up (he would turn it on, it would turn back off, turn it on, it would stay on a tiny bit longer, then turn off, once it was at a good temp it would stay on).
