Help Picking a New TV

So I’ve talked to 2 people in the last couple of weeks who have C9 OLEDs, and have already experienced burn-in.

Has anyone else heard about this?

I was actually considering the C9 for its excellent gaming abilities but been leary from the burn in stories and it being a LG set.

I too was considering a C9 but due to my viewing and gaming habits, burn in is all but assured.

Samsung is another who makes a good gaming tv and doesn't have burn in....
The issue is no Dolby Vision and next gen games will have DV mark my words.

I am still not sure what TV Ill get for my room.... The TCL 8 series is great but thus far no variable refresh rate or 4K/120hz plus the input lag is good but not great.

Hisense is making a dual LCD but how will the input lag be?
Also I am hearing it's only a little brighter than OLED and OLED suffers in this area.

Panasonic is making a dual LCD called Megacon(I think)

Samsung has trademarked Dual LED is this the same as Dual LCD?

I am waiting till income tax time frame to buy so maybe CES will show something and make my decision clearer...

I think HDR10+ being royalty free might give Dolby Vision in games a fight for the next gen. We'll have to wait and see.

Now that I have a One X I'm back to looking at 4k TVs. The Sony 900F or whatever has always been high on the list and the 65" is on sale for $1200 right now. Close enough to Black Friday so may be worth holding off a bit longer I supposed.

I'd get the new TCL 6 or 8 series over that TV.

I’m considering getting a new tv, by the end of this year or early next year to replace my samy ks8000.

It’ll be primarily for gaming, then movies.

Should I wait or any suggestions, preferably under 2k and 65”

I'm in the exact same boat as you. Thinking of replacing my Ks8000 with something else. OLED is most definitely out due to my viewing habits ( and I don't want to baby sit a tv). I'm thinking about the Sony X950G or Samsung Q80. I've been burned on Vizio in the past so I'm wary of them and I've got no experience with TCL.

Last I looked on Rtings the Q70 or 80 was recommended for gaming I think due to better input lag or something.

I give a thumbs up on the LG SM9000 I picked up. You can get it at Best Buy for $900 and you get VRR and HDMI 2.1. I have the the X hooked in and the picture is pretty stunning. Colors pop very similar if not the same to Quantum Dot and the blacks are good enough for a IPS panel. I compared the picture to my parents Panasonic plasma while back home thinking it might be somewhat close. It’s not between HDR, wide color gamut and higher resolution plus the blacks on that plasma were far worse. Input lag is also exceptionally low.

Is DV going to be the standard going forward..? Do TVs do both 10+ And DV, or do they have to ‘choose’..?
HDR 10+ is a non factor see the above video I posted.
Dolby Vision is not only vastly superior but alive and well.
Next gen HDR will be a huge thing with Dolby Vision being used in some games.

^^^ do research on the LG SM9000 that's mentioned above.
I wouldn't even consider it.

You are hyping a brand in Hisense that has a terrible reputation for reliability. All for a few more nits and not much less money. I agree though. Do your research.

Maybe I should wait until these clownos get their s*** together and figure out HDR, HDMI, etc standards. Quit coming out with barely improved devices for $2k every year and pick something. Already hearing about 8k when 4k s*** isn't even standard yet. One of the biggest scams in electronics.

People on a budget chase Hisense and TCL. Those who can afford a bit more chase known quantities like Samsung, Sony and LG. The Wirecutter recommended TCL and they had to take that back because hundreds of readers reported problems. Hisense last I checked had a high school level website promoting their TVs. But let me guess people in the know really pick these brands.

LG is NOT on the LCD serious list.
