Help Picking a New TV

If LG is not on the serious LCD list then Hisense certainly isn’t also. In the end you are hyping a budget brand with a terrible reputation for quality.

Why do keep saying budget brand but own that LG? Have you actually saw the prices of the top Hisense and TCL vs yours?
You own a budget TV sir.

Korean made electronics have given me nothing but problems and before my current Sony I owned a $3500 LG 4K(they aren't that price these days) and it had problems that LG did not help with.

Maybe I should wait until these clownos get their s*** together and figure out HDR, HDMI, etc standards. Quit coming out with barely improved devices for $2k every year and pick something. Already hearing about 8k when 4k s*** isn't even standard yet. One of the biggest scams in electronics.
Let me say what I'm doing... hopefully it will help?

I am waiting for CES 2020 for a 4k Full Array LED set that has....

HDMI 2.1/4k/120hz/VRR for gsync etc
Low input lag
1500+ nits brightness
Dolby Vision

Was considering the C9 as it covers most of the above but adds the threat of burn in and is way to dark for my tastes and where HDR is headed ie a brighter future.
If we get a display with the above list we will be ace for the next gen.

I have been disappointed with Samsung. My previous TV was an LCD, the same one they paired with the 360 at launch. It ended up having weird clouding issues after several years. My current TV is one of their plasmas and for the past couple of years it has had a flickering on the top 1/4 or so when it's a bright portion. Not really noticeable under normal use but definitely when gaming and there is a bright or white sky at the top. It's why I've been looking at Sony's offerings for 4k.

Hisense is a budget brand. LG certainly has a range of TVs from low to high but their reputation is not bottom of the barrel like Hisense is.

The H9F is a great price/performing tv.
They are bringing Dual LCD to America...
A tech that has over 2 million dimming zones.

What has LG done in recent years for LCD?
What new promising tech are they bringing to LCD's?

Reliability you say? I say read the horror stories from owners of LG OLED's.

First on the market with HDMI 2.1.

LG is one of the most open platforms and in particular supporting all HDR formats outside of HDR+.

Nano cell technology

WebOS is best in class

They didn't invent HDMI 2.1 and they only support some of the features ie the TV's aren't true HDMI 2.1.

Sony and others support various HDR formats.

Nano cell? LoL
The last LCD using that tech to be considered the best in class by most?

The ips LG TV's are known for glowing blacks.
And I should know I had one.

The lastest Roku is is better than webOS.

Buy an LCD = clouding and hideous blacks when watching in dark room if you still want a decent HDR experience.
I'd still buy an oled in a heartbeat if my TV went bad, it's a LED backlit Samsung HDR LCD and it's great as at daytime but annoying at night I'm afraid.

rtings shout out for the LG SM9000.

Of course who wants wide viewing angles and color accuracy. Meanwhile that hisense won a award for best budget tv.

Glowing blacks? The IPS panel shows itself a bit with no lights on. There are certainly no glowing blacks though. It’s a great picture overall.

I think I'm going to hold off getting a new TV this year. I haven't seen any deals on the tvs I want. Surpisingly saw OLED prices drop tremndously yesterday, to the point where I was almost ready to risk it. I'll check again around Super Bowl time, until then I'm gonna keep rocking with my KS8000.

Wait on CES is my advice.

Yeah since most people here are gamers and we have a new gen coming that will likely be able to take advantage of HDMI 2.1 anyone looking to buy a new tv should hold off and see what'll be releasing next year. You don't want to buy something that's hot going to take 100% advantage of a new Xbox or PS5.

Is there a good chance we’ll see a set with these qualities at CES?
