Help Picking a New TV

Apologies for violating the rules.

I appreciate all the views/opinions from others and especially from those who know more than I do. I'm still in the process of making a choice even though I'm leaning towards a certain brand. But this thread has been really helpful to me. I want to take my time and get it as close to right as I possible can.

I don't purchase TVs that often.

No violation on your end, so nothing to apologize for. The thread just needed a bit of cleaning and your post were unfortunately in the middle of the heated discussion.

Back on topic, you also need to be cognizant of what type of media you're going to mainly watching. A few of us have recommended OLED but burn-in is still a thing especially with static images. I got a protection plan with best buy, so I don't particularly care if I do eventually get burn in from all the static images gaming has. If you plan to game heavily and intend to keep your tv for years ( i.e. more than 5+) I kinda would steer you toward a traditional LCD or maybe even one of the newer miniLCD tvs. If this is a purely movie watching tv, OLED all the way. For mixed use of both gaming and movie/tv watching, both LCD and oled are good choices but you might have to baby the OLED a bit to keep it burn in free again static images are the devil for OLED.

IF you do go down the OLED path, my personal preference is for the LG as it ticks the most boxes for a gaming display for me. The Sony is no slouch either but it seems to be more directed for movie/tv watching than gaming. Again viewing preferences is key here.

AS for LCDs, I can't say if any manufacuer is flat out better than any other. My Sony X950G still looks and performs great. So does my Samsung KS8000. The only company that burned me while it peratains to TVs is Vizio, which I won't touch with a 10 ft pole after all the things I went through with them.

I not only have to be price conscious but also be aware of space as well. I've moved my gaming to the bedroom a while ago, gaming sitting on the sofa was killing my back. So I purchased a nice comfy chair (NobleChairs Icon, Highly recommend) and plant myself a few feet away from the screen. Its been great but I don't think I should go beyond 65".

I remember my brother had this CRT that weighed as much as a small vault. It was super reliable though and lasted for what felt like decades.
Ah yeah couch wasn’t comfortable for me either. I bought some home theater recliners for my living room and moved the couch to the basement lol 65” is a good size for a bedroom though

I've actually been gaming on a camping chair (it's got a very upright position, really comfortable) for the last year or so. I can move it closer to the TV, which works for gaming but seems WAY too close for movies for some reason.

So any recommendations for sales, cheapest sites, etc? I keep an alert on SlickDeals, and I'm patient, but if anyone has any other recommendations, fire away.

I've been out of the TV game for a long time, looking to get a 75incher for our new houses theater room. Doesn't have to be spectacular as it will be just for watching movies on. Would rather not spend more than 1500 bucks.

These go on sale every so often, so if ya want it out a bit you could get it for said price (I snagged a 65 for a few cents under a thousand, after taxes)

I’m sure TeKPhaN would concur

Sony X900H is good,HDMI 2.1 and can be found for a good price.

Prices can be going up and they aren't making this model so if considering one... you might have to start looking.

Wow, that on-screen FPS counter for the LG C1 looks awesome. Its like we could do our own tests at home to confirm or debunk technical stats for games. I have no idea how LG can push this update out so fast for their 2021 TVs while Sony still doesn't offer VRR and 120/4K Dolby Vision. I want a C1 even more now.

When I look at a lot of the new tv's aside from HDMI 2.1 they don't seem like much of an upgrade over the tv I bought a few years ago. HDMI 2.1 feature integration also seems to be fairly unstable at the moment with a lot of bugs and things being reported. It almost seems like waiting until next year is probably a better idea as long as they don't keep cutting corners the way some have. This is the set I have now and while it's not full array it's still got a bit of a different kind of lighting set up than most sets do.

TeKPhaN My dad is looking at something in the 75-88” range. Budget is around 3k, bright room.

He sent me this one…thoughts? Is this the updated 900H?

I pretty sure he has one (dono the size), as do I (mines a 65), it’s a great TV.

Mines in a room so not much light, it is bright though, sound is great and you can get rid of the built in apps, I did, since I only use it primarily for gaming, all movies and streaming running through my ps5
