Horizon: Zero Dawn

Ok, so the Ropecaster has no effect on the Scorcher and that's total BS. I sunk like 5 ropes into it which is more than enough to stop the movement of the Thunderjaw which is bigger but the Scorcher just ignores it and rams right at me, da hell. The fight against the other new beast is not that bad as long as you keep your distance but the Scorcher is too damn fast and agile. It sure is a worthy prey.

I'm having a lot of fun though. I've got back into the groove and combat is going a lot smoother. The only thing is the machines are so tough that regular arrows do almost nothing and I find myself using bombs from the blast sling as my primary means for any real damage. I'll need to go back to my old blaze farm at the first proving ground, it should still work.

You'll get some upgraded bows and outfits that will help some.

I agree, the Scorchers are tough. Even late in the game, when I'd come across them, I would be "uh oh." I never got to a point where I was comfortable with them -- which is good. It did get to a point where it was fun tangling with them, though.

I don't think I had a set strategy with them. I know I would want to tear that mine launcher off their back. I think I used mostly tear arrows to whittle them down a little, then maybe some blast bombs and/or ropecaster with timed bombs. Make sure you have the best Ropecaster, fully modded for handling. I would also use freeze arrows (three notched at a time), followed by blast bombs or three notched hardpoint arrows (fully modded for damage). I'd lay trip wires if I had some time.

One thing I love about Horizon's combat is that it is a great mix of strategy and improvisation, with lots of options.

And yeah, I went through a lot of blaze. There's an upgraded harvesting perk which will help. I had a bunch of money, so I just bought it when I ran low.

Glad you're having fun. Along with the visual upgrades, some of the sidequests are meatier than in the base game, and the lip synching is better.

I just started the DLC and I was quickly reminded how beautiful this game is. Anyway, all of the machines are dialed to 11 and batsh!t crazy now. I was struggling against this new enemy machine called a Scorcher. I think I have a good strategy now by freezing it and then using fire bombs but sheesh its a massive and yet slippery machine that its hard to be accurate. I forgot how many things the player has to keep track of, such an intense and satisfying combat system.

I still haven't started the DLC, need to. If I had a full year to do nothing other than play video games, I might actually get caught up on my back log!

And yet you still can't stop yourself from buying more new games.

Unfortunately God of War came out before I could finish the DLC. But I plan on going back to it.

The title oversells it, like all Youtube titles seem to (hardly "amazing"), but there are some cool little details for Horizon fans here.

I hadn't noticed a few of them, like the shot in the leg, the light through the leaves, the sawtooth paw thing, and some of the animations.

I really wish they had done another story expansion, a prequel that let us play as Rost would have been cool IMO. These companies build these great open worlds and abandon them too quickly IMO. Hell I think the Witcher 3 could have had a couple of more story expansions as well, another one with Geralt and one or two with Letho would have been cool.

Yeah, I would've loved another expansion, but they've got to get to work on the sequel. Frozen Wilds took 9 months to complete. Lots of time and effort went into that; it had more content than a lot of SP games and involved significant upgrades to the game in several major areas (visuals, animation, dialog, quests). They only charged $15 a pop for it, and only a fraction of the people who bought Horizon purchased it. I'm not sure these DLC packages are all that worthwhile (for the company, I mean), unless they're quick and easy cash-ins, which this was not.

I agree that more DLC would've been nice, though.

Horizon 2.

Does it feature Alloy as the protagonist again?

We've got no official information, except a confirmation that it's being made.

I'm sure Aloy will be the protagonist. There are still some major questions to unravel (e.g., who sent the original signal, what happened to Ted Faro, what is going on with all the other subroutines, what Sylens is up to), and she is uniquely positioned to get access to the places where those answers are. Plus, she was a very popular character and is arguably a PS4 icon at this point. Guerrilla would piss fans off (including me) if they sidelined her.

Horizon Developer Guerrilla Games Recruiting for New Game

"Gee, wonder what this could be? Dutch developer Guerrilla Games has started a hiring spree, suggesting that its next project is decided and is about to enter full production. We wonder if it could be a sequel to the studio’s massively popular breakout hit, Horizon: Zero Dawn? The mind truly boggles.

"Perhaps a more interesting discussion than whether Aloy will be making a return (spoilers: she will) is whether the open world RPG’s inevitable sequel will be a PS4 game or not. With development likely to take at least three years, the PlayStation 5 will almost certainly be out by the time that the studio’s done, thus we reckon next-gen development is about to get underway in Amsterdam."

Sounds like they're about to enter full production. I thought maybe that had started already, but I guess not. The author says give it another 3 years, minimum. That would be 2021, a year after the probable PS5 launch. I was hoping they might make 2020, but 2021 does sound more realistic if they're just gearing up for full production.

Started this a 3rd time. I wanted to start from scratch. Child version of Aloy was painful. Yipes, what a plastic mug.

Anyhow, I've played a couple of nights. I'm about level 7 or so.

edit: level 12 now. Great game.

Not to dominate the thread but surprisingly I think this is my favorite PS4 exclusive so far. Really enjoying Detroit Become Human too, so that’s close, but Horizon is just more of a game if you know what I mean lol

Oh good! Thought people would just be shouting “God of War” at me lol. That’s also a great game, but I just like Horizon better

Finally getting into this one while waiting for Spiderman and holy crap it’s so good.
I'm with you, I started this a few weeks ago after all this time of never playing it due to other back log titles and not owning a PS4 until last year, I was LOVING it and I got to the bit where you're allowed to go out of the camp after becoming a see***.

Spider-man has derailed me for the time being but that's mainly due to me trying to avoid spoilers for Spider-man so I'll play this and then return straight back into the wild!!!

Aloy is a fantastic character (they all are really) but she really grips you from the start and you feel an immediate connection!

Can someone give me the motivation to actually start this game...I mean I played the intro but nothing other than that. My back log of games is unreal.

I'd encourage you to wait until you have the time necessary to devote to it. I've seen a number of people rush and have a mediocre experience. Horizon rewards time and patience. You'll need to take some time to level up, explore the world, and understand combat. And I hope you have a Pro.

I think my favorite part of this game is the environment. At least that I can think of, no other game has pulled me in and made me want to live in a game world.

I'll be your best friend.

you want to live in a world where robot dinosaurs try to kill you?

Ok so I've finally finished (Platinumed) Spider-Man so now I can go back to this glorious game!

I'm about 3hrs in so it's all ahead of me!
