I was terrified when my old boss offered me to buy the business (I'd worked there for 9 years), and his wife walked me through loans and all that jazz. I was managing 3 of his shops at that point, but being 27 with almost $400k debt was not how I pictured my life. I was convinced I was gonna join The 27 club with Amy Winehouse.

Now, I think I could easily open up another 5-6 salons, it's just training and managing staff that is the difficult part. It's like herding f***ing cats, with diva personalities and 6 inch heels. But I love it. One thing that really bugs me now though, is that the concept of a work free holiday are a thing of the past.

Every weekend, staff call me constantly, when I'm on holiday, people still call me about the most petty s***. Comes with the territory though I guess.

I would never be able to do what you're planning though. Opening up something in an entirely new field? That takes guts!

Could you do a local craft brew before going the hole hog? You'd probably be lost hanging out with your wife without work to distract you too. :p

(I hate going on holiday with just a partner. I'm not comfortable with silence, and I hate romance stuff. I hate going to dinner with just them too.)
My wife mentioned that I should consider buying into an existing brewery there as a partner. But I feel like I would have a better sense of accomplishment (even if I failed), if I created my own from scatch. From the logo, name, design, marketing, flavors, hiring, permits etc. I mean, hundreds of thousands of people start up a new business from scratch probably daily, so why wouldn't I be able to? Then again, hundreds of thousands of businesses probably fail and close daily or weekly.

You bring up a big concern of mine. People calling in sick, not showing up, employee theft, holidays. I need to have that commitment that if someone can't make it in, and I have plans, I would have to suck it up and come in, which would suck :(

With a family of my own and a full time job plus OT every week I game far less now. When I do get to play still enjoy MP shooters with friends on XB Live and play a couple single player games when I can. I wish I had more time to play.

EDIT: I've been gaming since the nes/SNES days. I would say I did my most gaming during the 360 years. Some great online games that kept me addicted and I had a big group of friends that play regularly on Live. I would say my favorite genre in gaming since the beginning is RPG's. It's amazing looking back and seeing how they evolved from SNES till now. Some of the greatest games of all time.

Another member of the 43 club. Also started on the 2600 (playing the bowling game with my great grandmother was one of the highlights of my young life). Had a Vic-20 which I occasionally would type in code for games I'd pull from magazines (even if some didn't fit into memory), also got a TI 99 4A (which my grandmother also had), which was nice. Got an NES for Christmas when I was 8 and that was pretty much it (other than one or two PCs) until I was able to buy my own. Bought the Genesis in the early 90s, a PS1 in the late 90s, got the OG Xbox for Christmas from my now-wife, and then bought the 360 a couple of times, a Wii and an XB1. Still play a lot of non-graphics intensive games on my laptop, too - the Civ IV Caveman 2 Cosmos mod right now is eating up that time.

I now have much less time for gaming and so I'd already given up on ever getting back into the Sony ecosystem. I'm even to the point where I didn't play Fallout 4 until a few months after launch. On the other hand, my oldest son will play games still (although he still prefers to watch people play them on the y'alltube) and my youngest is starting to enjoy watching Mario games on the y'alltube as well, and occasionally plays some educational type games.

Ohh, I forgot about my TI 99 4 A. I had that before NES and Commodore 64. I also had this.....

The TI was awesome. I spent way too much of my younger years playing Parsec. My grandmother loved Yahtzee.

45 will be 46 in September. Started with pong have not stopped since. Play more singleplayer these days. Love multiplayer But I'm very competetive but not that good so I don't play a ton anymore. Well besides Battlefield 1.

I had the Vectrex.

Also started with an Atari 800.

I'll tell you a few other things I've noticed as I've gotten older:

1. I have a lot more time for games than I did 10 years ago. I'm past the phase in my life where career and family are major concerns. I'm pretty much free to do what I want and have plenty of leisure time.

2. I'm more open to what I used to call "kiddie" games (e.g., Nintendo games, platformers). I used to turn up my nose at them. Now they seem like a breath of fresh air. I like the lighthearted quality. I am not a big fan of games getting "mature" (e.g., I felt Uncharted 4 suffered from Amy Hennig's departure and Neil Druckman's more "mature" focus on family drama and domesticity ... I missed the adventurous, lighthearted romp.)

3. I've become more aware of the benefits of gaming, less embarrassed about playing videogames (most of this is generational, probably). It's a lot better for you than watching TV. And I've really come to appreciate some of the unique experiences the medium offers.

I used to feel that way too. But I have learned with age, I don't care what people think about me playing video games. I think in the end, they probably don't care, or they are probably understanding everyone has their hobbies.

yep. Remember those commordore games you had rewind the game and load it again if you died! now thats hardcore!

So it's kinda like Turn 10 implementing rewind in Forza when you crash, but really they stole that idea from Commodore. The Commodore is still alive!

I had this game on cassette.

This was basically a rogue-like game. I think I spent more time rewinding and loading the game then playing it.

California Games and Karateka were my favorite on the system. In addition to.....

10 PRINT "PLAINVIEW"
20 GOTO 10
RUN

That was my intro into programming. You remember those game mags that you give a page of code each week if you got all 6 or 12 editions of the mag, it was a full game code in the end? That was so great. Playing games and learning how they worked at the same time.

The only that I remember was Hard Driving. It was a one life race track and you were also against the clock. I don't think I ever even beat the very first course in the damn game. Race and loose in under 1 minute, then 3 minutes to rewind. Lol

:)

10 LET I = 1;
20 PRINT "PLAINVIEW"
30 IF I < 10 GOTO 20
40 END;

(Sadly, I've forgotten BASIC syntax to the point where I don't know if that would work. I mean, work as in compile and run, because obviously it would have the same effect as your code and Plainview's if it did). :)
