Rumor has it that Universal Pictures wants to reboot Miami Vice on the big screen.

The studio previously brought the 1980s TV series to life as a 2006 feature film directed by Michael Mann, who also exec produced the original show.

The film, which starred Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx as undercover narcs Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, respectively, was deemed an underperformer. It made $163.8 million worldwide, but cost at least $135 million to produce and more to market.

The rumor comes via Latino-Review's "El Mayimbe":

I really didn't like the Mann Miami Vice movie. Although, I did like the .50cal Sniper bit

Never saw the Mann reboot. I'll have to give it a watch. Anybody watch the original series lately, still hold up?

Clarence Howard is my pick for tubbs...

I really like Michael Mann's own Miami Vice film, but pretty sure this has nothing to do with Mann or anybody related to either the original production or 2006 film. I just don't care I guess.

I remember catching a bit of Miami Vice on the Esquire Network and it's a pretty cool show. Not every little bit of it holds up, but overall it does what it does well.
