Inafune says Japanese industry has "gotten worse"

Does seem the japanese market is going more mobile whilst the console scene gets smaller with each moment...doesn't the 3ds sell roughly the same amount of ps3 ever sold in japan each month, give or take a few thousand?

It seems like the Japanese console games that are supposed to make a huge splash, never really do much for the industry. Certainly not in the long run.

Word around a campfire in Japan was they aren't too interested in MS console this gen. Go figure? :really:

They aren't too interested in any consoles lately over there. The Wii-U is barely keeping it's head above water.

Anyway, I can't remember the last time I bought a Japanese-developed game. It had to be Dark Souls, which was awesome. By and large, western titles seem to be where it's at now.

I think most people live in mega cities in Japan, when house/ apartment are small, as well as need to travel maybe mainly via train/ subway, so handheld or mobile games seems better proposition.

Lost planet was ok, but other than that I haven't played a good Japanese game since Grandia 2/Skies Arcadia/PSO days(I don't own Nintendo consoles so I cant compare those).

I'm not going to dispute Inafune because he has years of industry experience to speak for him. But I wonder if the ENTIRE market hasn't gotten worse. From the outside looking in, it seems as if there is no room for the mid-tier(AA) games or niche games on consoles anymore. It looks like unless you are working on blockbuster type game or a lower budget indie title, you're not going to make your money back.
