Xbox Cloud Gaming - The App Formerly Known As XCloud

I called it. Sony and MS's partnership was Sony moving to the Azure server platform. I don't know if they have a secret sauce per se but Azure is a very mature platform with lots of support.

Stadia built on Linux & Vulcan, seems a lot more work for devs porting. xCloud is Xbox just lift and shift.

I wish Linux was more mainstream. I haven't used it other than playing with Ubuntu years ago from a USB key, and it seems like a really good OS.

From linked WC article:
"According to an analysis by Ars Technica, xCloud only exhibited 67 milliseconds (ms) of input lag compared to Stadia's 166 ms. If you directly play Halo 5 on a console, you experience 63 ms of input lag."

So, that's...basically NO perceived lag??? Wowzers. This actually changes the entire gaming industry as we once knew it!

Plus, they are saying that you can use your own console as a server. I'd like to see more about that. Does this mean that I have an X on one screen and an S on another, I can tap the X for greater performance on the S? This would be pretty darn sweet.

I got to play Forza Horizon 4 and Halo 5 using xCloud today at E3. I was highly skeptical before getting hands-on with it, but I'm now a true believer. It won't be a substitute for competitive gaming, but it is absolutely suitable for on-the-go gaming.

In Forza, I never oversteered, and I hit all of the turns as I intended. In Halo, my aim was good - headshotted enemies without problems.

That to me is enough to convince me that Microsoft figured it all out. I don't know how, but they did it.

And onemore thing: they're going to further optimize it before launch. Holy crap.

i'm not sure it works quite like that. More like you are streaming video of your X playing on your S..

I think you can use your own console as a server when you're streaming to eg Android and iOS

.. for homes with bad WiFi connections, but an X1 with wired internet connections.

It's All about having choices

So people are looking at this all wrong. You can use your console to host and play any room where you want.

That is one thing that everybody can do unless you have old equipment that needs to be changed.

Now, far as those with the data cap should dump those providers and look elsewhere.
