Xbox Cloud Gaming - The App Formerly Known As XCloud

It looks cool as a device. But as a phone it looks like it would be as uncomfortable as using a small book to talk with.

A Windows company making an Android OS phone? Microsoft sure has changed a lot in the past 15 years.

I don't like Microsoft Windows, but that Duo looks pretty damn slick.
Yeah, that duo phone looks sick. I might get this next and see how it goes next year.

Got accepted. Can't wait to see how bad it is.

PSNow? Or steam link, if he/she/they have it?

I played for another 10 minutes, Gears 5 and it was playable, like a 7/10. You could feel the delay however there is definitely some delay added in from the Bluetooth of the controller on too of it which is something they will never get around. It was hard to discern if the delay was coming from the Bluetooth of the controller or if it was the streaming latency.

Button presses are really not that snappy. I was playing at home on WiFi. Part of the problem is the bluetooth connectivity to the controller. It's very unoptimized for this and definitely introduces latency. I've played Minecraft natively on my phone with a Xbox One controller and could feel the latency that bluetooth introduced. This was also no different on my girlfriends Galaxy S8...I just ordered a 9 dollar phone clip that will be here tomorrow so once I get that I will put in some real time

Played for about an hour today. Competitive shooters or PvP instances are pretty much unplayable or impossible to be competitive let alone do well. Too much delay and I have had 14ms ping to my connecting xcloud data center. Hopefully they can improve it but I am not optimistic the delay will get any better.

I picture PS Now, xCloud and Stadia all about the same in performance. Insufficient for core gamers like us.

Agreed. I think I am pretty much done with it. Latency doesn't get much better than 14ms to the server and still just wasn't snappy enough. I just don't see it improving.

Remember, this was on my home WiFi, I can't even imagine how bad it would be over cellular LTE, even when my carrier (TMobile) is partnered with MS on the project.

I imagine the fix will be like Stadia controllers where the controller connects directly to the server, though I still have my doubts to it resolving all of it...

Got access to the console streaming today and I can say that it if you are on the same LAN it works nicely, just as nicely as the PC streaming. Haven't tried it outside of my home yet though but I expect it to not be good.

I don't understand how that reduces latency at all. It anything I feel like it would make control latency even worse.

Oos, I was thinking about streaming games Ala Stadia where it's rendered off-site...

Microsoft adding support for Dual Shock 4:

"for the gamer"

At Resetera:

"Dual Shock 4 already works with the beta on phones. It's weird playing Halo 5 with a Playstation controller on a phone but it works quite well."

The hilarious thing about is that Sony's own Remote play app doesn't work with DS4 unless you have Android 10. Which makes zero sense as it syncs up and works just fine on lower versions for everything else but their remote play app.
