Is Sony one of the more resillient companies ?

And I can't believe Sega has only sold that many consoles. I used to think Sega was popular once, even though I only ever bought a Dreamcast from Sega, but I enjoyed every day with it until they announced they are stopping it.

Like SevenDead1ySinz said they didn't have a huge presence during the 8-bit gen. and only really came to be a power in the US during the 16-bit era. They then squandered their consumer sentiment and market share with half baked add ons 32X/Sega CD. Which in turn effected dev/pub support that only deteriorated with the Saturn and finally the Dreamcast. :(

I wouldn't exactly call Sony resilient. They're a company that has been a victim of hubris in most of their corporate arms, TV, video games, personal/ mobile electronics. In the 80's and 90's Sony created some really great products, televisions, Walkmen, etc... That could (and sometimes justifiably) command a premium price.

Fast forward to the turn of the century and other Asian companies now sell products at or of better quality at a fraction of the price. Sony still prices their products vastly higher and creates technology that isn't adopted industry wide and becomes proprietary, constantly shedding market share in the process. Sony had taken steps to right the ship, which is what we currently see with the asset sales and such.

Saying 'Nope' doesn't change the fact that Sony is not the bigger gaming brand, any real gamer knows it is Nintendo, even hardcore Sony fanboys know it's Nintendo..you seem to be the only one thinking it's Sony. The fact that Nintendo has been around longer than Sony (in gaming) already makes it a bigger brand. The Playstation brand is bigger than the Wii brand, but it is in no way bigger then Nintendo's overall brand, that's just stupid talk.

Sales =/= Brand. Brand is how marketable the name/product is, how recognizeable it is, how big in popular culture it is. Nintendo has a bigger brand than Sony..that;s just the way it is. Nintendo has been in the industry a LOT longer than Sony, giving them a longer chance to build a massive brand. If you want to talk console name brand, than Playstation would be bigger than Wii and Xbox, but on a company level, Nintendo is a much bigger gaming brand than Sony, hell that's all they really do, Sony as a brand is bigger in TV's and movies than in gaming..
AGAIN comparing console sales....... Sony beats Nintendo in brand popularity and sales.

Sales has nothing to do with brand popularity. You are tying to compare a console lines brand with an entire companies brand. Nintendo's overall lifetime console sales is greater than Sony's, The Wii has more than the PS3, the Playstation Brand as a whole has more than the the Wii brand or the Xbox brand. You are comparing them in the wrong manner. Nintendo is the bigger company brand, Playstation is the bigger product brand, two different things.

Also, hate to break it to you, but between 1994 and now, Nintendo has more sales for all of it's consoles + handhelds than Sony does for theirs.

See Sega couldn't stay afloat and I thought the Dreamcast was selling ok, if it was Sony selling the dreamcast, it would have lasted a lot longer.

lack of 3rd party support killed the DC since Sega weren't making money on royalties and had to rely on in house devs and high game sales.

Being the most powerful isn't nintendos game. But rather trying to be innovative with products, see WiiU,Wii.
