Watched it last night. Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in it is so striking. At the level of Daniel Day Lewis at his best. Phoenix’s acting produces an intensity and strangeness that make his character nearly uncomfortable, but mesmerizing to watch. Will the new Batman movie tie into this one? I did not expect the story to be that good.
Will not tie into any current Batman. Director said they will never cross paths.

Yeah, saw it myself todat. No joke, 12 hours later I'm still thinking about it. Haven't seen a movie this good, with this kind of affect on me since Matrix I. Unbelievable bit of clip.

in front of a screen
BTW, what the heck is up with the aspect ratio? My theater played it with black bars on the sides (not full screen).
Did yours have a weird bleed of Colour at those bars? Felt like I was watching a YouTube video scaled down to avoid copyright.

The sound at my theater was spectacular...

Note, don’t take kids, I heard a few crying for certain scenes.

Most of the film was shot 65mm. Not sure why they cropped it left and right unless their target screen was IMAX? It’s also closer to home (16:9) ratio than 65mm frame ratio.

No color bleed, but a little light bleed.

Also, one family brought a toddler to my theater, and even gave him a loud iPad to keep him entertained! I was far enough away to only notice the noise during the most quiet scenes, fortunately. I don't even know what people are thinking nowadays.

Light bleed, color bleed, is from projector set up poorly and/or not being calibrated.

Saw it again. You can see how much Scorsese influenced it. Big time Taxi Driver feel. I also got a The Professional feel.

The Oscars I believe it will be nominated for.

Best Picture
Best Male Actor
Achievement in Cinematography (the film is beautiful to look at)
Sound Mixing
Original Screenplay, or adapted, depending on what they consider it.

Post spoilers as you wish.

There is a lot of discussion of what was real and what was fantasy. To me, the parts that were fantasy were the parts where Joker's laugh was not pained. His talk show appearance at the end, and what happened after, were a fantasy. I believe the civil unrest happened. I don't think Joke was there. I don't believe he was hailed as a king. I believe he did dress up as Joker, but I think he was caught when he did his "Hey," dance (Rock n Roll Pt. 2). The "Hey" dance scene should have been longer. It's my favorite scene in the whole movie.

This film made a ton of money on its opening weekend. Pretty sure they are going to make sequels.
It MUST adhere to its no protagonist world, or at the most, authorities play a very minor protagonist role. A little more than this movie, but not much more.

That's a lot of people these days... douchebags. They wanted to see the movie and couldn't get anyone to watch junior so they took him regardless of the fact they might expose him to potentially traumatic scenes or at the risk of bothering others.

I think the cop car scene was an homage to this scene from The Dark Knight. It’s also a juxtaposition for an earlier scene where Arthur was in a bus.

Joker makes me want to dive into the mind of Heath Ledger while Dark Knight was filmed. I should probably look up some interviews and watch it again.
