With profits down and an announced executive shuffle for year's end, it's not surprising that Angry Birds publisher Rovio is flinging some jobs into the dumpster. Outgoing CEO Mikael Hed announced today that the company will cut about 16 percent of...

To be fair, there's a lot of money to be made out of family friendly animated films. They could spend $200 million and get double that back if the movie is successful. I think worse case scenario is them breaking even with a franchise like Angry Birds.

Totally true.

It seems just about every animated film makes a minimum of $100M of sales. Most probably make at least $150-200M. It's amazing there aren't more movie studios churning out kids flicks when mainstream flicks with actors are hit and miss in success.

It's not exactly unexpected. The studio is built around the success of ONE( and it's sequels, I guess) game that was likely a fluke in it's success. People have had enough Angry Birds, and if they don't expand their portfolio, they are going down. They aren't going to be able to live off it forever. It's not like it's got a story and characters to develop over multiple games. It's just the same, simple game-play over and over. I loved it for a while, now it barely warrants a blip of interest from me.
