Kinect Topic

So, this confirms why Kinect Sports won't be a launch game. There's not much in here that sounds like it wasn't just an issue with KS.

Also, other reviews of KS have been overwhelmingly positive, along with comments on the overall responsiveness. Sounds like they had a glitchy system. Worth keeping an eye on, but I think it's premature to think that Kinect is dead. Again, especially after similar reviews that were nothing but positive (and very specific as to why).

I'm quite skeptical of Kinect 2 as well. I really need to see all of the dashboard navigation done in real-time, without the use of clickers (i.e., like during the reveal event).

Boo...

Even if you are not into Kinect games yourself its still a cool feature especially when you throw parties at your pad or when you have family members with kids. It's a good way to keep them entertained and in check which keeps them away from acting like little energyzer battery packs all over your place.

Also how bad will this work for games that support it? Does this mean no RTS type games? Grrrr!

I am guessing all will work best with voice as it does now.

Some positive previews for comparision:

Kinect Sports Rivals Proves Kinect 2.0 Actually Works
I'm quite eager to try out bowling, my favorite event from both Kinect Sports 1 and Wii Sports, but sadly that will have to wait for another day. Until then, rest easy knowing that Kinect 2.0's likely flagship title works...and it's plenty fun to boot.

Gamescom 2013: Kinect Sports Rivals Body-On Preview - Rare Unleashed on Kinect 2.0
If Rare sets out to prove that Kinect 2.0 is a cut above its current-generation fledgling, then it can only be looked at as a success. Kinect 2.0 works. It wasn't quite 1:1 tracking, but it's as close as we've ever seen with our well-travelled eyes. Not bad for one of the early titles built around the new tech if you ask us. Let's just hope the other four game modes are a little bit more fun, but also maintain the accuracy these two Kinect Sports Rivals modes achieved.

The good part about kids is that they probably won't care about any lag. My niece loves Just Dance, but she has it for the Wii. I've watched her play it with her friends, and she doesn't even care what's happening on the tv. She just likes dancing with her friends.

Not that it matters much, but they showed the same exact facial scanning thing this guy is talking about... "LIVE" on camera... months ago.

Things get buggy from time to time, and Kinect is no different. Are we supposed to dismiss the tech because of one article when there are positive articles as well?

So are we making this an official bet or what?

Official in professional manner. No money as you would be inclined to keep it in the box for payday. When you get the X1, be honest with us after a few weeks.

Absolutely guarantee you will be hooking it up as soon as you setup your X1 and will use it once you get past your egos.

Mark my words.
nope lmao.

in the box it stays. Rather use smartglass.

i've been over this on TXB...the people saying its not leaving the box just puzzle me. But whatever, not my X1.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of people who are not planning on using their kinect will end up selling their devices to PC users. Don't know how much PC users will be willing to pay for them.

If they created some crazy stuff with Kinect 1 then imagine what they will create with Kinect 2. All it needs is a little hack into it and bam.

Not saying it's not trustworthy, but the first preview is from oxm, so that could be slightly biased.

My small ass room that is about half full of queen sized bed is tipping this professional bet heavily in my favor :)

Works for audio input regardless of camera depth which is much smaller than K1.

Yeah my xbox is going to be about 1 1/2 feet from where i sit. The smaller depth is still not going to do me anything.
You're going to need glasses if you don't have them already.

This.

I mean, there probably are still bugs they're working out, and maybe this guys face was problematic to scan in or something went haywire (see the MS Crimson Dragon sound fiasco at E3, the PS4 freezing up on Japanese live TV or their Black Flag demo at E3). If the game were coming out this week and it happened in a review, it would be terribly troubling. But the game is far enough away and we've been able to see this demonstrated on video enough times to know that conceptually it works, though perhaps not with 100% efficiency yet.

Kotaku is doing something wrong, there are videos from the cons that show people being scanned in, didn't take nearly that long, maybe a couple mins at most
