Hideo Kojima has reiterated that he doesn't want to make Metal Gear Solid games for the rest of his life, as part of a thoughtful chat with Game Informer. As a matter of fact, Kojima doesn't want to make games for the rest of his life full stop.
Kojima has been looking for a replacement franchise overlord for a while, seemingly. "I understand what you're saying," he began, when the site drew a comparison with Ridley Scott's handing the reins of the Alien IP to James Cameron. "At Kojima Productions, if our studio were a kitchen and the head chef changes, then it changes the flavor and it changes. The world franchise usually becomes more open, as in Alien.

"To be honest, I've actually wanted to do something similar just to change it. I don't know if the Metal Gear brand sometimes is a bit heavy to carry. The franchise is difficult to handle. But so far I've had no success [passing the torch].
"Metal Gear Rising [Revengeance], fortunately that was a spin-off so that went well," Kojima noted. "Ideally I would like to step out from the Metal Gear franchise as a producer and dedicate myself to other games. So far that has proven to be a bit difficult. Alien is a very successful example [of a new director coming in]. Unfortunately in our case it's more like Terminator, that once Cameron steps out of it there was kind of a mess."

Didn't he say this after 4? Sure he said he would leave it for someone else while he would work on new games.

Yeah, I read about that in GI. Apparently he's wanted to unload it for a long time. And he did unload it for a while, but things went awry -- there was fan outrage and "death threats" (?), and so he resumed the lead role once again.

No one can do it like Kojima san, I guess.

The GI article also mentioned the entourage that accompanies him to interviews, scrambling around beforehand, making sure everything is just right, e.g., switching out his chair for a more comfortable one. I got the picture that he was some kind of pampered celebrity.

I can't see anything wrong. Its weird for sure to need to find a comfy chair but it could be an odd habit of him.

But he, comparing to great directors like Jame Cameroon & Ridley Scott seems to suggest how highly he think of himself.

Hahaha..I did not know that!

Yeah..that's quite a comparison. Metal Gear is his baby. I bet it's hard for him to let go, too.

Kojima has been wanting someone else to take over Metal Gear for the last what? 8 years. He might as well accept the fact he's a slave to it.
