You're right. I'm a fan of
the good guys. I've been gaming almost since I can remember, and I've owned a lot of consoles over the years, starting from Atari. Most of the execs from Sega to Nintendo to Sony to Microsoft have been nothing but a bunch of stuffy suits. When someone brings humility to gaming from the top, I do take notice. I do give a sh!t that the direction of gaming is on course, and when someone on top cares about actual games, and not just a product, I have the right to admire that human. When people talk sh!t about good humans the sake of it, I have every right to defend that person.
"One of the things I've always appreciated about Phil is how, even as busy as he is, he still plays a lot of games," Geoff Keighley, the creator of the Game Awards, told me. "I'll always remember talking to him Thanksgiving weekend 2014, right as we were about to launch the Game Awards, and it was clear he had just spent the entire day playing Assassin's Creed. That stuck with me."
I don't like everything he's said, (hell, I don't like everything I've said) but I like a whole bunch of stuff that he's said and done over these several years. I really don't understand how anyone can hate on someone in his position who seems to genuinely care about gaming. I honestly cannot comprehend this level of fanboyism. If he were the same guy he is now, but at Sony, I'd not only still like him, I'd buy more Sony sh!t. I think that's honestly people's only real problem with him, is he works for Microsoft and Xbox.
