I think it's also fair to say people bought the new XSX because they thought it was the more powerful console too. MS was heavily marketing in this department saying next gen experience only on Xbox, optimized for Xbox, most powerful console etc. Many thought they would be getting the better versions of multiplatforms from the get go. I don't know if in the future, once devs figure the GDK out, if they will consistently have advantage in future titles but one would expect so with having better specs on paper. Only time will tell.
It's a nice check-mark but I believe for those that made it the primary factor, they are a really tiny niche. Good news for them, they could re-sell and probably get more than they paid for it today. Either way, I don't believe anything has changed on that front. As stated, I believe PS5 will continue to have some advantages and win some head to heads even after the pendulum swings. PS4 Pro has no business winning a single battle over One X and occasionally does and at worst, comes up pretty close most of the time. PS5 has a bigger delta in their favor in terms of ease of development, a smaller delta in pure horsepower than Pro/X in addition to being the platform a lot of devs will debut their games on. Ease of dev and prioritization matters significantly when it comes to optimization. It doesn't change that the Series X hardware is more powerful and has some bespoke capabilities that can be leveraged in terms of ML, physics and AI with the R&D Microsoft is investing in those areas. That power will have to be exploited by 1st party and it will.

Hope it comes to fruition for you, it's nice to read a level headed Xbox fan's perspective.

I don't believe it will be another "power of the Cloud" situation so your patience should be rewarded in the near future.

If people chose Xbox over PS5, it was either because they're just all in on Xbox or they're buying into its potential. Personally I'm both of those things.

Or the so-called "problems" are just manufactured drama. I wonder how many people are playing an arcade racer at 120fps to even notice?

XSX is running games great right now, so is the PS5. Games will look even better in the future.

The real problem this gen has been availability and people flipping consoles, making it harder for gamers who want one to get one.

Ironically the people who have screens that can play the game at 120fps have screens with VRR which means the frame dips don't matter. lol

Nobody knew there was a problem until DF served them up L's in the plastic wars for a game mode they either weren't playing in or didn't know there was a problem with.

I'll help everyone out here and act Nostradamus;

PS5 will outsell XSX/S
Xbox will have most AAA games in the end of the gen
XSX will have best looking and running 3rd party games, prob 1st party too with their newly acquired devs
MS will have success with game pass and it'll come to Nintendo's consoles at some point (through streaming)
Sony will try to make something similar but will fail, just as they did with the move and PSVR commercially.

I have no idea why you quoted me... Maybe if I read your original post and not just your "trust me, wait and see" parroting that you've been running the last year, I'd have a clue idk

Newly updated FAQ showing VRR is indeed coming too for the PS5. You quoted me saying just wait and see? Now we got the confirmation for that question mark.

I had no idea that PS5 didn't have VRR, good that it's coming, would've made the console even more gimped without it no doubt.

Wait what. You quoted me not knowing what I was talking about and just put a generic "wait and see"? 🤔

Why wouldn't they matter?
VRR doesn't fix frame rate dip issues.
It reduces tearing when the fps dips.
(It's not as big of a deal as people think)

Yup, VRR will help with screen tears but performance dips will still be there and noticeable.

Very few of MS's studios are known for making high level looking games, Bethesda included. I love the ES series but they aren't known for how good they look and Fallout is ugly AF.

Happening on XSX as well 🤷‍♂️🙊🤷‍♂️

True, and this is another reason I waited this time around.

But these are different types of problems.

XSX seem to be more due to software, and can be fixed. Makes sense if the late-arriving dev kit rumors are true.

Ps5 artifacting more likely due to HW problem, and/or over-clocking.

No..
XSX are turning off(bricked)
Not turning on(bricked)
In fact I think more defective XSX reports are out if not it's close.

True. Seems like the issues with the PS5 are quite a bit worse and much more prevalent. It’s all social media is talking about 😕

Well just beefing up PS Now wouldn't really be something similar. They would have to put their games on there day 1 and that definitely wouldn't fail but also aren't going to do it.

The impact of frame dips is far less noticeable with VRR at high frame rates.
