My question Val is why you are not concerned that the PS5 also drops to 40?

where all consoles dip from to near 40fps.

Then only a split second faster loading time for the PS5. Dat XVA bringing the beef.

Leaning towards picking this up for PS5 despite it being the inferior version. It’s close enough and I want something to play.

Imagine your horror when you just found out that the PS5 can’t hold 60fps and drops to 40fps....AND runs at almost half the resolution as the Series X.

Doesn't matter what you buy it for. The differences are minimal. The FPS difference is very specific but the locked 60 for 98% of the game. Nobody will notice the shsadow difference, and the res difference likely wont be noticeable after 10 minutes anyway, if noticeable at all.

It's a bug. Best support of that is that it's consistent across both consoles (S/X). Both consoles have different GPUs yet use same APIs, general code and CPU. They shouldn't struggle with frames equally in the exact same spot unless there's a bug or API issue. Fact that it's only one spot is the other sign.

I was told last week it would be a year before the Series X tools normalized to the point it's achieving it's potential in relation to how well the PS5 meets it's potential so this is kind of surprising. IOI may simply be a lot more proficient with Direct X. I don't think it means Xbox will win the rest of these faceoffs this year. Still going to take some time from what I was told directly by a developer.

Both consoles should be able to fully support 4K60FPS with no dips according to the PC benchmarks.

AC:V on PS5 was performing on par with a 2080 Super which can happily do 60+ fps average at 4K in Hitman 3.

What CPU and Ram are they using for the benchmark? As the SS shows, a powerful CPU can run better frames than a more powerful GPU with worse CPU. Unless these benchmarks are using the same CPU’s that’s in the next generation consoles, these benchmarks aren’t accurate to extrapolate GPU performance on the consoles. Also the console versions are probably locked at 60 as where the PC version will be unlocked.

Most of the time , you would see console versions developed to the metal whereas PC it is relatively less optimized because of the broad range of videocards/cpu combinations out there. There is absolutely no reason we cannot see 4k60 FPS if the PC version is running 15FPS higher. Of course, YMMV with the developers and how they have optimized the engine/game.

Because being similar in performance to an Nvidia GPU isn’t the whole story. The performance of the PS5 would be even worse compared to a 2080S IF RT was involved.

Insomniac didn't have a problem doing an open world Spiderman game with Raytracing/60FPS at 1440P. Their raytracing is actually industry leading as well if you look into it.

You're right, there's definitely more to the story here though.

Well in the case of Hitman 3 there seems to be a limiting factor: either have 4K and suffer performance issues, or lower the resolution and keep performance.

The fact that a choice has to be made between the two on a PS5 and essentially that choice does NOT have to be made with a 2080S + a better or comparable CPU points to the PS5 and a 2080S not being like for like in GPU throughput (though the PS5 is honestly more like a heavily cut down AMD 6800 TBH since they both hail from the same architecture practically.)

Spiderman Miles Morales is a fantastic looking game with great RT, but it is also 1440P which is still a lower resolution than what Hitman 3 is running at and a far cry from native 4K.

Not knocking on the PS5, but people need to be realistic here.

Right, and so far it seems like they wanted to focus more on the performance hence the lower resolution. Which is good since FPS is king.
