Wtf does racism have to do with anything in this thread?
Key word is not racism, Key word is "offensive". New definitions of offensive are created daily. The reason I bought this up is, the topic of Sony listening to people conversation online. You could get banned for saying something you think is okay, have no bad intention but they think is offensive.

I think a while ago, an overwatch player was banned or fined for putting up a-okay hand sign, the supposed white supremacist sign. The guy they banned I think is Asian & not even from the US.

Friends though, them I let it rip in their face.
Thank god we are not friends!!!

If you are talking about saying horrible things in a game lobby, yes I get that Sony needs to be able to address that for everyone who's playing the games sake, but what if you are playing a fighting game with a friend? What if you are in a private chat with your buddy and you say something that the powers that be dont like? You could lose your account with the way these are written.

I have zero problem controlling my tongue. I dont swear or use racial slurs. In 16 years of marriage, my wife has not heard me swear once. But I am a gun guys. So if I am talking to my buddy about this 4 day rifle course I just went to and how fun it was to shoot the full-auto MP5 5hat they had there, well if the moderator hears that and doesn't like it, say goodbye to my account and any digital games I purchased.

The "powers that be" isn't the one recording you, your buddy is. So if your buddy feels like you are pushing your limits during that private chat and he decides to report you, and it is deemed that you were, in fact, pushing your limits, then that's something you're going to have to take up with your buddy.

Some junk in the trunk (as that amerikan ebony singer sang in that song) is fine, but obesity is a disease that needs to be fought, not encouraged.
Lucky you. You prefer Xbox. If you play MP on Sony, some Landwhale may hear what you just said & complain to Sony with the recorded audio to ban you for causing her distress.

I have many friends farting loudly in front of their significant other...I always get a picture in my head of them going 69 and she getting a fart in her face...
Now now. I have a little more respect than that. I don't want to lose her. In fact, I made a rule that we don't 69 if I've had 3 bowls of chili with 6 beers.

Too much details........Thankfully I had my dinner.

Unless I am misunderstanding what is in the new policy, ANYTHING you say or do no their network they have access to. That includes a private chat between you and your buddy. I am a manager of a large contact center of a local credit union. We have software that we use that can pull all calls that have a word or phrase (say something like "checking application"). We use it for regulatory reasons but a company like Sony could use something similar to this software and designate a word or phrase that they deem is offensive and now they don't need someone to fill a complaint. They can get you anywhere on their network for anything.

This is starting to get off topic, so rather than derail the thread more, we can continue this conversation in PM if you like. I won't add more here.

Update: Sony has also issued the following statement on the matter: "Following this update, users are seeing a notification about Party Safety and that voice chats in parties may be recorded. Voice chat recording for moderation is a feature that will be available on PS5 when it launches, and will enable users to record their voice chats on PS5 and submit them for moderation review. The pop up you’re seeing on PS4 right now is to let you know that when you participate in a chat with a PS5 user (post-launch), they may submit those recordings from their PS5 console to SIE."

I'll have to play closer attention to RGT. He seemed a bit of a Sony guy. But I've not watched enough to say that for sure.

He's actually quite down the middle when it comes to consoles there has just been more BS being spread about the PS5 so he clears that up,
