does it not always beep when you shut down? I know sometimes I get two beeps on my PS3 can't remember if that ever happened with my PS4.
 
Yes it beeps. Not sure if there is a difference between putting it to sleep or turning it off completely though.
 
I accidentally forgot to shut mine down while it was in Stand By mode this past week when I went to move it (unplugged it)....oops. I was happy that when I started the PS4 up again, it warned me to NOT DO THAT AGAIN!

I used to have my system always tell me my system was not properly shut down despite it being powered down properly. Thankfully, one of the updates finally fixed the issue before the problem resulted in a bricked console.
