I need to finish the 3rd, but mass effect 2 was the best of them all IMO. I wondering if this will be a next-gen title only, or it will arrive on current-gen as well.

Mass Effect as a series and story seemed to have lost its way towards the end to me. Don't get me wrong, I still love the series and it is fun to play regardless, but I just feel like they didn't deliver on quite a bit of potential. I'm hoping with these new consoles and the what appears to be the advent of more and more "open world" console games, that we will see some of that universe come to fruition. In fact, I would love to play in the Mass Effect universe with other players in a more persistent type of universe scenario, maybe something where players can choose their race, origin, and "homeland/base of operations". If they could just create dynamic worlds and events to take place in that universe and then let players choose a path more to their liking. Some players could follow the necessary steps to become a captain/commander, while other players may want to band together to help him/her get there as part of the crew. Some players could become mercs, others could search for artifacts lost to their chose alien race, etc.

Make it happen Bioware.

The Mass Effect universe has definite MMO potential, but I don't see Bioware going down that path again for a while after all the problems they've had with SWTOR.

I really enjoyed playing ME3 to be honest. I mean the ending is such an anti climax and just horrific overall but up until that point I enjoyed it. Looking forward to when they finally reveal it. It's running on the Frostbite engine isn't it? Dragon Age 3 is looking pretty sexy visually on that, I'm excited to see what a shiny glowy Mass Effect game would look like on it.

Sounds like some EVE online s*** to me.

Has some potential, sign up with one of the major merc groups, blue suns, eclipse, or be a part of some archeologist whatever, be a part of the alliance or other council race military, maybe have some skyrim style radiant quest system.

That'd be cool. Helluva lot of work though. Ambitious, and probably unlikely.

@shinobi602 Don't worry: we have a large and talented team, we started a while ago, and we are "borrowing" a lot of game systems from DA3.

Now this bit is an exciting prospect.

I really don't see what people saw wrong with the ME3 ending. I thoroughly enjoyed ME3 and it's my favorite game of the series.

To me, the ending was just too short, too confusing, too apocalyptic, and overall presented terrible answers to the questions surrounding the Reapers. The original ending led you to believe that the entire galaxy was pretty much screwed, and left the fate of the Earth, and especially your friends, up to interpretation.

I think people wanted The Lord of the Rings, and instead got The Matrix Revolutions.

Edit: The Extended Cut did make it a little bit better though. At least we knew what happened to everyone.

Hmm I didn't really have a problem with it. I still need to check out the Extended Cut is though

Replaying 2 at the moment and my god so much f'ing filler with the planet scanning and hacking.

3's best moment for me is without a doubt the Krogan story arc.

Without getting too spoiler-y, the moment that really felt like the high point of the series was Tali's "reaction" after I sided with Legion. That's a moment of "Wow, there really are tough consequences to the decisions you make here" - the type of stuff you'd expect from a Bioware game. The ending was basically ganked from the Deus Ex series: push a button to choose the short cutscene that ends your game.

They really went all out to make the Quarians look like dicks in 3. Even Tali who was my Shepards LI started acting like a bitch.

As much as it pains me to say this, Bioware needs to walk away from Mass Effect for a while. Work on Dragon Age and a new or old IP( Jade Empire) but let Mass Effect rest a bit. Let the Mass Effect series simmer on the back burner for a bit. Give the fans time to forget the last 10 minutes of an otherwise great game in ME3 and give yourselves time to write a complete narrative for the next ME game and not write yourself into a corner.

EA won't allow that what with 3 selling very well but yes they should have been allowed to give the series a rest.

I've been planet-scanning this morning, which is more annoying than I remember. I'm going through with a "perfect" Suicide Mission run to prep for my first play-through of ME3.

EA won't allow that what with 3 selling very well but yes they should have been allowed to give the series a rest.

I wonder how ME2/3 would have been different if the EA acquisition hadn't occurred.

I remember taking a moment and thinking about that choice. It is one thing to ignore previous games choices but wow that was disappointing.

I loved all three games but the first is still my favorite! The ending of that one gets me every time when Shepard comes running and does that little grin at the end. I think the first one you could have fun playing either as a Paragon or Renegade and totally enjoy each experience but in the second one you knew if you were too much of a renegade you could lose some key people. Playing as a renegade in the first game was just a blast.

My god Bioware make this so!

I remember the first reveal of ME. The concept, art and music blew me away. It was my most anticipated X360 game from first moment I saw it. As other have said, I loved the first, liked the second and didn't think much of the 3rd. So I'm having difficulty raising any excitement for a new ME game. I think I'm done with the ME universe, and after DA2 and ME3 I could be done with Bioware, all the real talent has left, it's just EA Edmonton now.

ME screams for the MMO treatment. Such a fully formed setting. I was convinced that the secret Bioware Austin project was a Mass Effect MMO.

the evolution of a series has never disappointed me more than the mass effect games. the greatness and potential of the original mass effect and then the subsequent sequels... gah, i don't even like thinking about it. i don't trust these guys at all anymore

replacing actual visits to unexplored worlds with f***ing 'shoot-the-probe' mini-games. what were they thinking?!
