According to this Nintendo has greenlit other consoles aswell as PC/tablets to play against Wii U players, and they expect Sony should be OK with patching it to allow Wii U players play with PS-players.
This might be really fantastic, if they could manage to get cross platform multiplayer between consoles aswell. :-)
