I heard a rumor earlier. Looks like it is substantiated then?

Wow, I wonder what went wrong. I have my own armchair analysis -- they grew too fast, lost focus on quality, instead just tried to cash grab by churning out one series after another in a fairly formulaic way, oversaturated their own market, and wrecked the pedigree of their own brand. But I have no idea what the actual factors were.
Bingo. Grew too fast and didn't know how to manage it all.

Metro Exodus Getting Pulled from Steam and will be Exclusive on Epic Game Store

Metro Exodus will be released exclusively on the Epic Games Store on Feb. 15, publisher Deep Silver and storefront owner Epic Games announced Monday. The game will launch for $49.99 in North America, and €59.99 in most European countries.
This means that Windows PC customers will not be able to buy Metro Exodus through Steam at launch, despite the game’s listing on Steam advertising pre-orders. “Any customer with an outstanding pre-order for Metro Exodus on PC through any digital retailer will receive their game as expected,” the announcement states.

Both Deep Silver and Epic Games used the announcement to highlight to the higher revenue split developers and publishers earn through the Epic Games Store, with 88 percent of the sale price going to the developer, compared to the 70 percent cut that developers and publishers earn through Steam. Both parties are painting this decision as a win for fans of the series by arguing that developers and publishers can use the higher percentage of revenue to invest back into the games.

“Epic’s generous revenue terms are a game changer that will allow publishers to invest more into content creation, or pass on savings to the players,” Deep Silver CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz said. “By teaming up with Epic we will be able to invest more into the future of Metro and our ongoing partnership with series developer 4A Games, to the benefit of our Metro fans.”
Ubisoft is another example of a high-profile publisher that will skip Steam with the release of The Division 2 on March 15, which will launch on the Epic Games Store as well as Ubisoft’s own online storefront.
We have reached out to ask if Metro Exodus will ever be offered through Steam in the future, but have yet to hear back.

Update: Deep Silver has sent an updated version of the press release that states Metro Exodus will return to Steam and “other store fronts” after Feb. 14, 2020.

I'm not opposed to games being on multiple platforms on PC like some people are, but when a game becomes exclusive, even just timed, then nah. I wasn't going to buy this game at launch but it is something I want to play eventually. Definitely won't be buying it in the first year. Epic can f*** off.

Epic is supporting developers. You should like that.

PC gamers can still buy the game on Epic's store and Epic will honor Steam preorders so I don't see what the problem is. I guess if someone doesn't want to download another store-front launcher but I don't see that as being that big of a deal. I love how Epic has uncut Steam to offer more to publishers/developers. Steam coasted with no real competition and now they will have to make moves to keep their market dominance of suffer the loss from more competition.

I still don't know about this game. I never did play the first game but it looked interesting. I need to do more research on this game.

Exodus looks awesome, the first 2 games were really good.

Having multiple storefronts just gets annoying, especially when I end up having to install Epic for 1 game. I've never had trouble finding cheap games on Steam, so I don't see the need for competition. Just another annoying thing to pop up when I boot up my gaming PC.

Why should I buy it from Epic's store? Because it's $10 cheaper or they give a bigger portion to the devs? Most Steam games I buy are cheaper than $10 off because Steam allows their codes to be sold elsewhere. As stated I have no problem with multiple launchers. I buy stuff from Origin and uPlay. This is what I have a problem with:

I just did a little bit of research on this game and it sounds promising. The graphics have a nice gritty look to them but what stood out the most to me was a statement that said the game aims to have linear story missions interwoven with open world segments. I really dig hearing that since I really enjoy a fun open world to explore but also see the benefits of missions that are more focused and steer the player where they want for the story. This game is now officially on my radar.

Since I'm not a PC gamer at all I was totally unaware of the gap in features/services between the two services. I just thought what Epic was doing in favor of game makers was awesome. Its nice to see a corporation not be as greedy......they are all still greedy but less greedy is better, haha. I should just keep my nose out of anything PC related because I know squat about how the gaming landscape works.

Weird. If I was making a new store to be competitive, the first thing I would do is take the list of features from every competing store, add those features, improve upon those features, and then add more features on top of that. That's just me though.

Epic is being anti-consumer is what they're being. They can offer more money to devs, sell it for cheaper, etc if they want, while allowing the game to be sold in other places.

No, it's pro consumer.

Offering another marketplace that gives developers a bigger cut of the pie is something called competition.

When competition comes, prices come down.

The only group that doesn't benefit from this is Valve. Boo hoo.

Software doesn't work like this. You can't expect a brand new marketplace to compete feature for feature with one that's been around for 16 years. The Epic store will be iterated upon ad nauseum, but for right now they're doing a great job. Power to the people who make the games.

I know how software works. And yes, I can expect a competitor to compete with their competition when they are offering me a new product. I never questioned the people that make the games, which are doing a fine job.

Meh, if you expected Epic to match Steam feature for feature on day 1 you don't know how any of this works.

You can't both totally share each game on steam.
Ie both can't play at the same time and this needs work on all PC game services.

I do like that they are giving more back to the devs, but they have a ways to go to match what Steam has built. Sorry if my comment came off angry.
