Hmm I don't see anything about how much the points/subscriptions will cost.

Coinstar usually takes a good fee for cash value.

I never used a coinstar machine, my bank does the same thing without a fee.

But if it doesn't charge a fee for an ecertificate, I guess this could be interesting, though probably not too relevant for a person with a Credit Card/Bank Account. Seems like this may be targeted more towards kids/teens?

Doubt I'll ever use it though, its still more convenient just to pay with the credit card I have on file, or look for points deals at Amazon/Best Buy. Plus I feel with this, I would always have an awkward number of points/$ in my Microsoft Account.

I've never seen a bank accept loose coins and sort them for you. I haven't stepped inside a bank in a couple years but I would see them turn people away with unwrapped coins.

Did anybody here know that Coinstar owns Redbox? Somehow, that makes this a bit more interesting of a partnership.

Lol. Welcome to present day. The bank is the ONLY way to change out your coins nowadays, IMO. I used to bring in rolled coins until 1 day they said they would not accept the rolls anymore. I had to undo all my hard work! Anyway, I'm pretty sure all banks worth a darn have change sorters now. Bring in your jars and the machine will sort it out in seconds to minutes. Coinstar charges a fee, banks do not! At least, not if you drop that money into your acct.

Citibank and Chase do it for anybody with an account there. I have never been nor seen anyone be turned down there with change. I do it once every 3-6 months. Never had a problem. I remember my parents doing it to when I was a kid too, so it's definitely not a new occurrence or perk either.

It's pretty much the only reason I ever go inside the bank.

What a crock of BS! I just dumped all my coins a month or two ago in a coinstar kiosk as us Canucks don't have pennies anymore. LOL. All in all, I got a solid $50-60 worth from pennies, nickels, dimes and the occasional quarter I missed.

Every time I do this, I end up spending half of it on groceries at the store (when I really should just pocket it and run). But a Xbox Gold would be a good use of funds.

TD Bank also takes loose change too, they have a coin star type machine in their lobbies, of course you have to have an account to use it for free.

The coin star idea is cool, however I'm not forking over 10% of my change to coin star for the service
