Microsoft has been increasingly aggressive in its attempts to push consumers to download Windows 10. Starting today, the company is upping the ante once again. As of now, Windows 10 is now classified as a “Recommended” update, which means many Windows 7 and 8.1 users will download and begin the installation automatically.

Microsoft has stressed that end users who begin the upgrade process will still have the option to say “No” before the upgrade begins, but I’m dubious of this for several reasons. First, we’ve already seen what Microsoft’s version of “No” looks like — it looks like this:

It's cost effective for them to consolidate their software. That said its bad practice to force upgrades.

You can't make me. I'm still using Windows XP.

I use it at home and it's great. That said I have been subject to these strong arm tactics at work by Microsoft. Problem is my company web-based software has all sorts of compatibility issues with Win10 and we have been told to avoid it.

I'm loving Windows 10 but this is just bad. I've read from others that it forced the update and then completely s*** the bed. Hopefully people have backups these days but if not RIP.

lol ^

I finally relented and upgraded. I was on Vista, by the way, not XP. I read that only 1% of the world was still on Vista. I was one of the few; one of the elite.

I like Windows 10. I'm having trouble figuring a couple things out (e.g., how to get the damn picture of myself off the browser), but I'll get there eventually.

How did you get the update? The computer I built in '07 or '08 that my wife is using is the other Vista PC still functioning in this world (64 bit Ultimate, baby!). I tried to get the update last week but it wouldn't let me - I assumed because they were only upgrading 7 and above to 10.

Oh, I just bought a new computer. Mine was about 8 years old, so I was due for an upgrade there, too.
