Until October 27 you can bring in your "gently used" iPad 2 or later to participating Microsoft stores and receive a "minimum" of $200 in store credit. The fine print says the gift card value will be equal to trade-in value, subject to "manager approval." Unfortunately, the deal is not available online, so you'll have to find a Microsoft store.

Sounds like MS's Surface is not selling well. I remember when I first heard that MS is trying to sell the Surface, I wasn't sure if they will become successful. Would you trade it for Surface? Why or why not?

EDIT: Personal, I think Kindle Fire HD is king, compare to others.

Desperate times cal for desperate measures.

Have to say I like my Surface tablet. Could do more but what it currently does it does well.

it's actually a $200 credit to the Microsoft Store, so you don't HAVE to get a Surface. Additionally, that's $200 for a first gen iPad, the newer models fetch more.

good move, really.

Interesting. Might not be a bad deal for people looking to upgrade from an older model. I'm curious as to how many people would actually switch, because once you already have a bunch of Apps purchased, it seems to me you would want to stick with a device that would allow access.

I just picked up an iPad 4 over the summer, so I'm pretty content. Surface looks pretty cool, though.

I like my surface but the thing should hae started at $349 or $399...

UK pricing announced.
Microsoft has now announced UK pricing for its new Surface range (thanks, CNET), which varies from £359 up to £1439 for a 512GB Surface Pro 2.
You'll pay £359 for a 32GB Surface 2, or £439 for a 64GB model.

The 64GB Pro 2 meanwhile costs £719, while the 128GB model costs £799. This is where thing gets pricey. The 256GB Pro 2 costs £1039, and then there's the 512GB version priced at a wallet-busting £1439.

Hm, for some reasons, Surface Pro 2/RT doesn't seem appeal to me. I don't know. It's almost as it's nothing new to be exciting about. In the back of my mind, it seems that MS is trying too hard to please everyone. All I can say is good luck and maybe it'll sell well this time.

I don't have an iPad but if I did I wouldn't for the main reason that when it comes to lap tops, computers, phones, etc. I'm an Apple guy.

I'm taking DJ classes because it's a hobby of mine and the program I use, Serato Scratch Live, goes hand in hand with the Apple products. Is like they are made for each other. Don't get me wrong, the program works with Windows too but is not as smooth as it is with an Apple device.

I guess that's the main reason why I'm an Apple head. So for that reason alone I wouldn't trade in an iPad if I had one.

Love my surface....to be honest..i think most that have negative things to say about it have never used it.

Surface 2 Pro looks nice....probably good with my RT for now though the Surface 2 certainly looks a bit zippier.

I should add, i have an iPad2 in my household (its my gfs) and she mentions to people when they ask about my surface that she prefers it.

if you are reliant on Apple's obvious large and rather awesome ecosystem then i'd say stay away, but if you're a casual tablet user with browsing, reading, music video and gaming here and there....imo...its far and away a better tablet with multitasking alone. I generally keep my twitter open with whatever else i'm doing.

oh and of course Office...i've used it as my travel work "laptop' before.

what?

Did you not watched at conference video?

This is just beast, I am getting the Surface 2 and my wife was going to get a google tablet but after what they can do with it and how easy and comes with a full office and skype, she was sold and so was I.
I did watch the conference, much like I watched the first Surface conference. If merely having a conference means your product is going to succeed, someone forgot to tell that to the first Surface.
