Mini-Review/Backlog Destruction Thread

Finished up Tomb Raider 2013 (Xbox) this morning. I had played it back when it first came out on PC, but never did get to the sequels and since it has been so long, I figured I'd start the series over especially when them being on Game Pass for now. Plus got those sweet achievements.

This afternoon I started Pokemon: Lets Go Pikachu. I've never played a Pokemon so since this is a remake of one of the originals I figured it would be a good entry. Not too far into the game so far to really be able to give a review. Love the art style though and it's nice to have a more light-hearted game to contrast with all the shooters I otherwise play.

Has anyone played Torchlight 2? It’s on sale digitally on XBOne. I played the original many years ago on 360. I didn’t even know the sequel came to consoles.

Finally finished Soul Caliber 6(XB1) story mode. The difficulty scales all the way up toward the end. Like Opponents taking half your life bar in 3 hits. But I stuck it out and finished it. Beautiful game too.

Finally jumped into Hunt Showdown (got it cheap on sale off Steam). Basically a horror/fps game that is a mini battle royale with some PVE mixed in. Basically you race/fight other players to kill a boss and extract out.

The real difference in this game is the sound. Sound matters everywhere. Walk on broken glass on the floor and it makes noise. Same for cracking sticks on the ground. Fire your gun and everyone around you will hear you.

The game is sort of set in the late 1800s with those types of guns in a sort of zombie/monster world

I had seen it played by people on Youtube but finally gave it a try. Worth checking out if you find it cheap. Check it out on youtube.

A couple of years back I bought the complete edition of the Witcher. Gave up on it twice. The Netflix show comes along and I loved it so much I tried the game again. Clocked around 250 hours in the game when the dust settled, in just over a month. There hasn't been a single game that I've ever put that much time into in such a short span.

I have no idea where to put it in my top ten of all time.

Started Persona 5 recently. Bought it at release but never got to it. Not too far into it (still on first palace) but really enjoying it. Never played one of the games before but it's fun.

My outer world still stuck in the middle. The novelty of the design, visuals & cheeky dialog has worn off, & then you realized how shallow the combat & RPG element is, & how much the assets are recycled.

If you play melee, just pump every point to melee. There are very few meaningful choices.

Been playing State of Decay 2. Just kinda getting started on this, but man do they really not explain much when it comes to base building.

Finished Ori and the Will of the Wisps(Pc/XB1). This is significant for me for multiple reasons. 1. I never finished the first game. 2. My game save got glitched and wouldn't load. Had to use an old save from 3-4 hours back.
I found it to be alright. Nothing groundbreaking or anything but a beautiful well crafted game from beginning to end. Oh and my achievement for finishing the game is bugged/glitched as well.

Dang I heard about the achievement glitches. I'd be pretty upset about that. Definitely gonna give it some time before I play the second one now. Hopefully fixes are out sooner rather than later.

Finished Doom Eternal(PC). The last boss is a bitch and a half. It was a good journey but now having finished it I have ZERO interest in replaying the game. The design for the game was great overall but the twitch shooter nature of it make me want to be 1 and done with it.

Bought and downloaded Gears 5 on steam. Only tried the tutorial and ran the benchmark ( it was 1am at night yesterday)

i must said the game is very well optimized on Pc. Easily getting stable 60fps and Amazing visuals. I will dived into the campaign and then try MP. Before I get destroyed, got my inflated ego ruined, and rage quit.

i am on leave next week, and due to lockdown, will have lots of time to play games.

Marvel ultimate alliance 2 on xbox one x.
It looks pretty good still, plays good, sounds great.
Gameplay wise and structurally the first game is much better, for some reason I didn't buy both of them and now I'm stuck with just the sequel since they pulled the games from the digital store.
Been eyeballing 3 on switch, anyone here played that one?

So I play a bit of Gears 5 campaign, in between playing Fortnite. I am in & liking the semi-open world part. I hope they expand it to be full open world for Gears next.

I do understand Gears is cover base shooter & open area combat isn't its style. But the open world doesn't mean open terrain. Batman & spiderman series for instances have very urbanized world, & many areas are like Gears shooting galleries.

Act 3 in Gears 5 now. Enjoying it so far.
The end boss in Act 2 is over a bit the top. It's like the original berserker, dial to 11 or 12. Big S bullet sponge (Yes I know you need to shoot a specified body area), & basically, any attack is one shot.

But I finally manage to beat it when I realize a feature I never used much before, roll.

Beginning of act 3 Cut scene,
"Oh wait, bald scientist, want to act gungho by wearing COG uniform! LOL" & then this Russian sounding tough guy said 3 things he hatred, Baird, COG & children, & you bring them all here! I was like Holy Cow, baldy is Baird!

I returned to Outer worlds. Anyway, I started the game using a controller but picking up stuff (which you do so often in the game) & managing inventory (again you do often in the game), is slow with the controller. With a keyboard & mouse, I can pick up items a faction of the time. I can pick up multiple items in one swipe of the mouse. On the controller, I have to point to Item A, hands-off stick to press the button, point to item B, hands of the stick, & press button repeat.

Anyway, I approach the game more as a narrative/story perspective than action/RPG as the latter is kinda well basic, and able to enjoy the game for what it does good.

Just finished Children of Morta. Such a fantastic game. I’m glad I stuck with it after my early frustrations/grind. Once you start building up your characters and buying the buffs in your house the game really becomes addicting fun. A nice mix of hack and slash plus rogue-like elements. Highly recommend. Now what SP game to play next on GamePass...

Started playing Ryse Son of Rome this morning. It's actually pretty fun, just a lot of QTE. I've heard it's short and that's exactly the type of game I want right now. Graphics hold up pretty well!

I posted in the official thread but just want to point out what a great time I had with A Plagues Tale. Beautiful looking game, great story, and the gameplay was solid. Highly recommend playing before it leaves gamepass one day

I actually stopped playing at that boss lol. I’ve been meaning to go back but I didn’t think the semi open world structure did the game any favors

The boss is a bitch. (Technical it’s a she lol). Luckily I have the freeze ultimate ability, but the boss is way too hard comparatively. It would be okay if her lifebar is halved, or having no ‚dream‘ sequence that obstructed your vision, or one shot attacks.

i think the Open World Area isn’t the best , but it give some change in pace to balladry after gallery of fighting. It is not perfect but has potential. higher density, fast travels, more side quests. Ala borderlands

I went back to Xcom 2. Loved the game but did everything wrong and basically my old campaign was unbeatable when I played it last year. This time doing it with WOTC DLC which makes Xcom 2 feel like Xcom 3. Amazing game. Top 5 of the gen for me.

One of the biggest surprises of the year for me. Yes once you get past the early part of the game, it's less frustrating. I used all the characters. So much fun.

I did the same I leveled up all the characters as I went. By the end I had half at lvl 20 and a couple around 19. At the beginning I dumped all my money into extra xp and extra gold till max then put money into everything else. It needs a new game+.
