Mini-Review/Backlog Destruction Thread

I have more games than I have time for. Sad.

Just download Hitman (free on EPic store), a new season of Fortnite just started (Marvel crossover with big names like Wolverine, Ironman, Dr Doom), & I have a new game Warhammer Vermintide 2.

Now that my holidays are over, & I dedicated 4-5 hours a day for my game development work, on top of my 8 hours job. That leaves 1-2 hours a day on game & everything else, if I am not already too tired. But 1-2 hours is still nice.

Finished Wasteland 3 (PC). Might need to replay it as I know I missed some of the companions but I did like the ending I got even if it was rough going getting there.

Warhammer vermintide 2 is so much fun especially with friends, it was probably one of the games I was most excited to see at the Xbox showcase haha.

I decided to download the free base Destiny 2 on Steam. Its just shy of 100GB which means it will take only 2 days + to download. I am 1/3 done, & only 22 hours more to go. I enjoy the anticipation of days, even weeks downloading a single game. It really pushes the joy of delay gratification. Can't wait for the next-gen of the 200-500GB game size where I can enjoy 1 month+ of delay gratification.

I'm not making light of your situation but I would legit cry if it took 2 days to download 100 GB.

I have been playing Amular reckoning. The remaster could use a bit more effort. But damn the combat is one of the best I play & weapons type is so refreshing. My favorite is the Xena Chakrams, & you can swap 2 weapons on the fly since each weapon attack is mapped to a button.

The amount of side quests is a bit over the top though. You get a quest every 10 steps, & many of the side quests have multiple steps, well advance of its time. Some claim the game has 200 hours of gameplay. I said no way, but now I think it's possible if you go 100%.

Finally finished Doom. Apparently I got close to the end but never finished it. So much fun, not sure why I got out of it. Nothing like waiting until a month before next gen to start working on my backlog.

Finished XCOM: Chimera Squad. It was ok. I found that it was a bit more repetitive than XCOM or XCOM 2. I also found that the game play mechanics were done better in Gears Tactics than in Chimera Squad weirdly enough.

I just download & start playing a bit Genshi Tactic aka Breath of the Waifus. The visuals is fantastic for a mobile/PC/console cross-platform game.

I have been playing Amular rerekoning. This game looks like it can be played forever despite being a single-player story-driven game, its so massive.

Been playing the gardens between today, what an awesome hidden gem. It’s on gamepass and I highly recommend it

Still playing Crusader Kings 3 on PC. Its been eating my nights as I wait on Cyberpunk. I think had cyberpunk not released this year, Crusader Kings might be my GOTY.

I finally took a break from ck3. Started Wasteland 3 when I'm playing on PC and playing through The Division on X1X. Not sure if I'm going to replay TD2, though.

I heard only good things about the game, but unfortunately not my cup of tea.

11 years later I'm finally playing Dragon Age Origins, and wow this is a good game.

I was always super in to Mass Effect, but for some reason never played any DA. Now I plan to go through them all before 4 comes out. Looking forward to seeing how Origins plays on the XSX.

Well you might get your wish.

Started Resident Evil 7 now that it's on GamePass. Not too far into it but it's pretty good so far. Good atmosphere although controls still seem super janky like the old games. Guy feels so slow as enemies and coming after me. Guess it adds to the tension.

Really liked RE:7
The only complaint I have is I wasn’t a super fan of the last act and boss especially. It falls back into the “super crazy/over the top” side of RE, which I don’t like.

I am playing Vigil: the longest night before AC hit on the 10th. WIth corona on the rise in Merkeland, most outdoor activities are canceled so I just want to play a simple game to pass time.
It is a Metroidvania/dark soul like game. Super tough. Got my ass kicked many times. Took me at least 10 tries to beat the first boss. Even the tutorial boss took me like 3rd time to beat.

The soullike saving is irritating & all your progress before the last save is lost, include your level up & skill upgrade/gears. Also, the enemy reset on activate checkpoints. Do people like this. I hate this in Remnant too.

Finished Little Hope ( PC ). Was alot more tense and creepy than Man of Medan. But the ending to this game felt like a cop-out. Nice twist but imo ultimately wastes to player's time.

The backlog until Cyberpunk comes out in Dec (hopefully):

PS5: Ghost of Tshima, Astro's Playroom, TLOU2 ( eventually)
Series X: Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Rocket League
PC: Crusader Kings 3, Tales of Vesperia

I am playing AC Valhalla now. I think its is not a game that you should rush ala Read dead 2.

I think it could take me weeks to get the game done, so I am not worry of running out of game before cyberpunk drops.

The way they set up AC games, I could play Valhalla for years like I did for Odyssey. I'm just dropping it temporarily once Cyberpunk releases.

Finished it last weekend. Really enjoyed it in the end although I see where you are coming from on the last act. I had so much s*** in my inventory, max ammo for like everything, then just blew everything to hell at the end and really didn't need any of it lol. Haven't played an RE in a long time (OG 3 at release being the last) but now I'd like to get the remasters/remakes of the originals and play through those again.

Well since no PS5 yet and hard telling when at this point, I'm finally getting back to PS4 backlog. I realize now I've barely touched it this year because of all of the games I want showing up on Game Pass. At least they were free. Anyways, currently playing Gravity Rush Remastered and really enjoying it. Camera can be a little funky but overall it's good.

Finished Hellblade. Never played it but decided to play it along with Gears Tactics as my first XSX games. Definitely one of my favorite games in recent memory. Cannot wait for the sequel, though I really wonder where they're going to go with it in terms of plot.
