Mini-Review/Backlog Destruction Thread

Since I am on Holiday & my laptop is an antique, I barely play aby games. But I do take the chance to see what is all the fuzz about Demon Slayer manga. The Manga alone (or Japanese comic) that supposedly outsold all of America comics combine sales.

So I went to a bookstore & bought the first book....

Now I have 4 books & 2 figurines, that can be pose together (see below). I only read 2.5 books worth (series have at least 23-24 books by now) so I do not think I can make a good review, but what I read so far were pretty good.

I really like the siblings love/protection theme of the Manga & the figurines ith hand holding emphasis this., So I bought them, It will be tough to fit the boxes into my luggage, but we shall see.

By the way, the merchandise for the Manga is massive. I heard it earned $1 billion in profit(or maybe revenue) in a year alone, & I totally believe.

I finished the manga like 2 years ago, loved it. I was following it pretty closely when it first released.

The anime is actually really good. Usually I avoid it because they add so many fillers but the music and animations are top notch. We finished the whole season 1 and movie that came after it. The movie isn't filler, it also follows the manga storyline right after end of season 1.

Apparently season 2 first 9 episodes will be doing the same train arc from the movie but with extra scenes and animations.

Finished Deathloop ( PC). Its my GOTY. Game play and story were right up my alley. Voice acting and dialog was superbly executed. No complaints on my end.

Also finished Yakuza: Like a Dragon.(Series X) Its a pretty good jrpg. Like most rpgs and Jrpgs nowadays, I felt it went a bit long with a few deus ex machina thrown in for good measure. Overall it was enjoyable and I'd welcome a sequel.

Really enjoying Guardians. Its up there with Deathloop as my GOTY so far. Also playing Halo Infinite campaign. It reminds me of Far Cry but with Halo.

So since my last update of Luigi's Mansion for Halloween, I've played Demon's Souls Remake, Miles Morales, and Chorus.

DS I'm not sure if it's because it ran great compared to the original or if the Souls type game finally clicked for me, but loved it and want to play through Dark Souls after Elden Ring.

Miles Morales was more of the same for the most part although I did really enjoy a new Spider-Man as I wasn't familiar with him.

Chorus is a great AA game and if you're looking for a space shooter check it out.

Currently playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition. I've played the first one maybe 4 times previously and the second once, but never got to ME3. Figured it was time to finally do that. The intro to ME1 is so amazing even after all these years. Up there with Half-Life 2 as my all time favorite.

Playing mainly Diablo 3 new season, Fortnite & Halo Infinite campaign.

To be honest, playing halo (normal) is not very challenging barred a few scenarios but it is chill.

Playing this little gem on gamepass. Super chill colorful game & simple gameplay that kids can play without much trouble as well.

If anyone here is a fan of classic JRPGs, have game pass, and haven't played Dragon Quest 11, then I highly suggest you do. After about 100 hours I just finished it and found it nearly flawless.

Now I'm taking the next step into the Dead Space series with a quick jaunt through Dead Space 2.

Playing Mass Effect 1 again and think I can safely say this is my all time favorite game. I always considered Half-Life 2 to be the one but even on my 5th playthrough of ME it's just as fun as the first.

Finish the Gunk. Fun litle game you can lay in 1-3 sitting. I complete it in 4.30 hours.

For reasons, like the plague tale, the dev feel the need to throw everything at you at the final stages & make it "challenging". in a mostly puzzle/platformer. Its not too hard but seems unneccary, just like the overtune boss fights in Plague tales.

Now playing Wasteland 3. I heard a lot of good things & see why not as it is on gamnepass. Worse is I don't like it the uninstall. Cost nothing. I only plyed for an hout but so far so good. Characters are ugly AF though (but msotly due to talent rather than intentional), luckily I do not need to get close up to them.

Finished Halo Infinite campaign. Was better than I expected. Seems like Infinite's story is trying to wash away Halo 4 and 5's. Not a bad idea.

And now I just finished Dead Space 2. I liked it a lot. Not quite as scary or tense as the first one, but still really good.

Now to continue the theme of space games that I never played but always wanted to, I'm on to Outer Wilds next. Always thought this game looked interesting and it seems to get glowing reviews, so figured I'd give it a go finally. Not really great at puzzle games though so we'll see how it goes.

Finished Guardians of the Galaxy (PC). It and Deathloop are tied for my GOTY 2021. Both are really good, well acted games with alot of heart. Can't wait to see if both games get sequels. ( Guardians most likely, Deathloop might be one and done)

Completed the main campaign of Alan Wake: Remastered today (XSX). They added in auto HDR in a patch earlier this week, I turned it on to check it out and knocked the last half of the game out in no time. Certain aspects hadn't aged well, but I still loved re-experiencing it with better graphics and performance. I plan on doing both pieces of DLC soon, I don't recall much about either, will be interesting to see if they hold up or not.

Just beat Outer Wilds - took me about 25 hours. That game was definitely an experience unlike any other game I've played recently. Really glad I decided to finally give it a try. Despite being puzzly which doesn't usually work out for me, most of it wasn't that hard to figure out and you just had to be thorough in exploring. Probably less than a handful of places where I had to check something up online and even then I only looked for hints, no actual guides.

Next up I'm going to play American Mcgee's Alice because I want to play Alice Madness Returns and I figured I'd play this first real quick to have the full story going in.

I played a little Indie game call Industria, using Epic store free 10buck coupon while is expiring. Paid in the end 6€. Its half life-lite. Took about 3 hours + to beat. Okayish. These days, I prefer shorter, chiller games than longer challenging games.

I have a crazy amount of work these days, that required a lot of brain juice, & after I am done for the day, I just want to chill & have fun.

I tried to continue Medium, thinking the hard crash might have been fixed. It was not. Got a hard crush 10 mins into the game & decide to just uninstalled it.

I also continue to play Gear 4. The game has to play in a small dosage (30-45mins)otherwise I get headaches.

Also, It's just not as polished IMO as Gears 5.

Needed some short games to play before Horizon Forbidden West came out. Never got around to Arkham Knight and since I hadn't played the first two in so long decided to play the Return to Arkham edition. Not sure if it's just age or what, but honestly AA hasn't aged well. Maybe the frame rate being garbage is the biggest issue, but game just feels sluggish. I'm also coming from Ghost of Tsushima where the combat and parrying is top notch.

Playing FF7 Remake on PS5. Square Enix has REALLY taken some liberties with the original story.

Couple weeks ago I gave Ghost Recon Breakpoint another try (never played Wild Lands). This time I’m really enjoying the game. Having a blast hopping on a chopper, flying to my next mission landing nearby, scouting the area, planning my attack, sniping enemies that I can see, then moving in taking out the rest with an AR and looting for new weapons and gear.

I haven’t been wasting my time exploring (map is huge), going after attachments and weapon blueprints since you find better weapons and gear on missions anyways. I’ve just stuck to side missions and main missions. About 20 hours in now. I’ve just been playing solo haven’t even used the AI teammates yet. I like sneaking and planning my assaults. Fun game.

It’s also really nice on Series X with the boost. The outdoor areas and effects look great.

Jan has been very dry as far as new games. Waiting for Feb for LAost ARk & Elden Ring (Maybe)

Just beat American Mcgee's Alice. For a PC game made in 2000 and ported to consoles as part of a newer game, it was surprisingly good. It certainly shows it's age, and I played on the easiest difficulty setting, but I enjoyed it and am glad I played it for the backstory before playing Madness Returns.

Before getting to Madness Returns though, I'm going to play a few other games the first of which is the next game for me in the Kingdom Hearts series: Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep.

Playing Control Ultimate right now. Love Remedy games so not sure why I never got to this one, but guess it worked out since it's PS5 version so looks/runs great. About half way through and really enjoying it.

Went back to GR Breakpoint.... It's... Pretty fun! It's hilariously bloated at this point though, hell, just trying to find what's the main mission now in the quest map feels like playing the game's open world itself lol.
Still, I needed something soothing open worldy after I finished Valhalla and this works. Customizing your character and team is great fun too.

Just stick to main quest (yellow dots) and the side quests (orange dots) no need to go for weapon attachments or blueprints (blue dots). Game is a lot of fun. I think I’m close to 40% of the campaign done.

And anytime you need to travel use a chopper. F*** driving.

Downloaded a few off Game Pass to dig into a bit before the February slew hits. Shadow Warrior 2, Wolfenstein Old Blood, and Prey. Enjoying the former two, and the latter I have not started yet but will tomorrow. No idea if I’ll finish any of them with DL2 hitting this week and then Witch Queen, Warhammer, Horizon and Elden Ring all before March… but that’s the beauty of Game Pass.

Finished Hitman 3 ( Xbox/PC). I'm sad that the World of Assassination is over but it did have a satisfactory ending. I think I would rank the new Hitman games in this order: Hitman 2, Hitman and Hitman 3.
