Mini-Review/Backlog Destruction Thread

IGN giving this a 9/10 shows how urgently they need to replace their reviewers.
Like you said, decent indie game but in no way is it even arguable to give this game more than a 7/10 at most, and that's taking into account the fact that the taste is like the butt.

Yea I used to favor their reviews more in the past but just so unreliable, they gave the movie we can be heroes an 8 which is shockingly bad (I was expecting something similar to spy kids but it was way worse) and gave Soul a 7 which is easily the better movie, just gotta go by word of mouth and find common themes in reviews.

Ok, I am done with Wolfenstein 2. I clocked 13 hours, 11-12 hours if I wasn't lost many times in the level. Map is kinda bad in this game, you can only see the floor you are in.

I think the game length is okay for the type of game & story it tries to tell. I think as far as the story it can make it as a B-grade movie which is fine & better than most games. Combat is pretty straight forward but the levels despite linear can be very confusing, & doesn't help by the map. The game is on the hard side (I played the third difficulty, "normal for experience FPS players"), & you do not take a lot of hits to go down. The final battle has a big difficulty spike

Thankfully you can pretty much save anytime which when abuse makes the game much easier. Except for the final fight where I was out of health and ammo, I never felt frustrated.

At full price, the game is probably too light on content, but at the discount price of 5.99€, I cannot complain that is a great bargain.

Visuals are on the better than average side. FPS is smooth & the game is stable on my PC. As for combat, the game encourages run & gun, & running over dead enemies to pick up shields & ammos. AI is middle of the park but there are enemies that seemingly able to appear behind you, despite you cleared the area, which results in much cheap death. There is also a small nippacik which is that there is no visual indicator where the shots came from.

I give the game a 7.8/10 (factoring discounted price).

Yepp, that final battle had me lower the difficulty (and lose an achievement), as s***ty as that cinema/theater level in the first game.

The level design is much, much better in the first game.
Story and characters are top though, one of the most engaging and interesting this gen imo.

Interestingly, the original game cost MORE on steam. I have seen many posts on forums that said the first game is better. I think the 2nd game is another dev team.
I may pick it up some times later, but the holidays are over, & I will be back to work tomorrow so I will have limited gaming time like I have this lockdown Holiday.

They're both great, first better levels, second game better everything else imo.

Think it's swedish developer machine games that made both? Many of them from the team that made Riddick I think.

I finished Prey, clocked at 40hours on steam. Masterpiece. I give it a 9.5/10. 0.5 points knock for the visuals that can be better.

I previously mentioned the lack of fast travel, after thinking back, there is a reason not to, as traversal & planning the best path to a location ( & alternative ways if one was blocked) is part of the gameplay, & if you want to move fast, like really fast, you can spec into moving skills & you fly past area fast.

The fabricator (used to craft ammo, gears, items, & consumables) & recycler (used to recycle parts for crafting materials) can be found in many areas so you do not need to backtrack to use them.

One of the amazing things about the game is NO enemies or areas are being the force that you need to fight through them to process. Even so-called bosses of min bosses, you can choose to hide from or run past. AT the beginning-mid of the game, I will kill all mobs in an area I need to explore so I do not need to keep hiding & running. But in the end, when I just want to sprint from one point to another (especially some timed mission), I just ran pass them. Sure I took damage, but it's more resource-wise for me to heal/repair at end of the run, then waste ammo/time engaging mobs (which will respawn later no less). There are far more items that can recover health than ammo you can pick up, ALternatively, you can turn into a cup & roll your way out without being hit at resource cost that can also easily be recoverable.

You play however you want. That is what makes the game amazing.
I am surprised you liked Prey so much. I got to the point where I had to force myself to play it. Which I found odd because on paper it was right up my alley. A story driven semi open world sim type FPS with light RPG elements. For whatever reason it bored me to tears.

I though Call of the Sea was really well done for an indie. I’d give it a 8/10. The art direction was wonderful, the story was pretty cool (shoutout that Norah was from my hometown 🙂) and the voice acting was great (really like Cissy Jones, especially so in Firewatch). A couple of the puzzle were WTH?!? but overall pretty easy to figure out. Plus I’m just a fan of good “walking sims”.

Maybe I woulda scored it a point lower if it wasn’t “free” on GP 🤷🏼‍♂️

I downloaded Aimlab(free early access aim trainer at steam) & trained a little, hoping to push to the next level in competitive FPS.

Finished Jedi Fallen Order. Very good. I was afraid for someone who is not good at souls like games it would be too much, but I actually really enjoyed it.

Now I'm going to dip into the EA Play section of Game Pass again to play a game that I started very long ago, really liked, but then life stuff got in the way and didn't get to play much of it: Dante's Inferno.

Downloading Rogue company now. Looks fun from watching Shroud played on Youtube. It's free to play so not financial commitment.

Finished up the main story and most of everything else in the base game of Ni No Kuni 2. There are a few sidequests left and like 5 tainted monsters plus the DLC. I'll probably chip away at the tainted monsters but probably won't bother on the sidequests. Already got my trophy for those anyways. I'll take a break from that and come back to the DLC some time down the road. Just hit 90 hours in the game so definitely need a break.

Moved on to Transistor from Supergiant Games. Huge fan of Bastion and always wanted to play it but never did. Seems like a fairly short game to play through and may even hit Pyre while I'm at it. With how good Hades is I wanted to make sure I played their other two games first. Only a couple levels in and enjoying it.

I just played Transistor not too long ago. I liked it too. Beat and it immediately started ng+ so that I could try more function combos that I hadn't collected yet.

I had transistor, but cannot get into the game.

i returned to path of exile. The graphics ( at least Axt 1) has turn from outdated to well less outdated. But I just cannot get I to it as I used too. Feels like work, which limited reach to more casuals.

I wish I hadn't waited until now to start playing Final Fantasy XV. I probably won't finish it before it leaves Gamepass.

It's been in there a long time (like I tried it on PC it feels like six months ago and got bored with it).

Rented it when it first came out and only had a chance to play like 20% of it. Loved it. Bought it a year or two ago for cheap. Really been meaning to finally play it. Keep getting distracted by newer titles.and time eaters like New Vegas.

I'm almost through it now. Like 2"levels" left. Really fun. Challenging at times but in a good way.

Probably Odyssey, best combat imo, best loot (not overdone imo), best and most rpg choices, least amount of bugs (of the last gen) and a perfectly blend of main and side quests.

Valhall have a great way of giving side quests though, and they're pretty much all interesting.
I had heard Odyssey is good, but less like an AC game and more like a standard hack and slash action game. Though one of good quality.

Well it turns out when I bought Origins i
I only got some of the dlc . The rest is on the season pass which is 60% off. Should probably pick it up eh? Sounds like it's worth it based on what i read here.

Yeah I played the orginal release on PS4 and its long and a bit of a grind fest. I can't imagine how long it is with all the added dlc.

Finished the first uncharted game, was pretty dated gameplay wise but still fairly fun, nice and short, looking forward to playing the next 3 games in the series.

FK this piece of shhit Path pf exile. I uninstalled the game. Died 3 times in a row on traps just before final boss in the lab. Fking BS. Not sure that they were thinking.
There used to be lava area, that turned off for a while so you have time to get on to the safe platform & wait for the next lava. Now they out running spikes traps at the safe area. The s*** thing is, you have to restart the WHOLE level when you died, & the lava is at the final area before the final boss.

I actually never played origins DLC lol, I usually play every new AC game from start to finish (did most side quests in origins) as soon as it's released, but when the DLC hits I'm off to other games.

I've heard that they're pretty great though.

Finally finished Wolfenstein 2 which has been in my backlog for years. So damn good. I've got to force myself to get through more single player games.

How does it compare to the first game? I recently completed it. Thought it was decent.

You are like the opposite of me these days. I have such a solid backlog that i usually wait for games to get patched, DLCd, and discounted. I just recently purchased Black Flag as well. Gonna go on an AC binge. I think I own that London one as well.

Black flag is great, Syndicate is okay.
I will say though, it's hard to play older AC games now, controls like a tank and you'll get frustrated by how many times you'll accidentally jump off a ledge or jump unto a chimney or such when there's missions with time limits.

It gives me that old school vibe with shooters. The only negative I would say is that a few spots are tedious. A couple of the ending fights are just sort of crazy, but the whole game sort of has that over the top feel to it. Definitely a modern take on the old school games.

I played it on PC with mouse and keyboard which makes it less frustrating. I find some FPS games more difficult on controller now for some reason.

Everyone called it a poor mans God of War, but I enjoyed it just as much. It's honestly a solid game and I much preferred the story, setting, and motif of Dantes Inferno.
Just finished it today. Yeah, I don't understand a lot of the hate I see on the internet for this game. I thought it was awesome. I wish Visceral was still around so they could do a sequel.

On to the next game in the Game Pass vault - this time Gears of War 4. I've never played 4 or 5, and while I don't really care about the MP, I'm looking forward to catching up on the story.
