Mini-Review/Backlog Destruction Thread

I'm mainlining 2 games right now.

Final Fantasy Remake 7 (PC)

Immortals Fenix Rising ( XSX)

I've come around on the FF7 remake. At first I wasn't feeling it, but it grew on me and I'm enjoying it for what it is. Plus mods help.

Fenix Rising is Ubisoft's BOTW and I'm enjoying it tremendously. I bought it on a discount and now I'm hearing it may show up on gamepass but its been worth every dollar I paid so no hard feelings.

Finished Fenix Rising. It was surprisingly good. Might even get the season pass to try out the dlc.

Finished Final Fantasy Remake (PC).

Whoo boy there is alot to unpack from this game. While trying to be as spoiler free as possible, Remake is both an accurate and an inaccurate title given the plot twist at the end. The subtle hints are there but it really doesn't come through until the end.

Very bold decision on Square Enix's part, I'll give them that. I didn't think that Square existed anymore.

Its a shame Xbox only players haven't had the opportunity to try the Remake out as it really is something to be experienced, especially fans of the original game.

Given all that happened in Remake, the next part Rebirth is most definitely going to be interesting and turn heads. I think I know what may or in this case may not happen in Rebirth IF the we're following the Remake path. :tounge:

I really hope I'm right.

I just Finished 2 really good games back to back. I'd like to keep the streak going but I know there are some average to mediocre games in the backlog.

It really is more a re-imagine sequel than a remake for those who have played the game 😬

Maybe. I'm trying hard to not call this a sequel, but
because the original game story wise is not invalidated by the remake, it's closer to a split timeline similar to what they did in game with Chrono Cross. Thus making it an alternate history or to borrow from Marvel, a What-If scenario. So both a sequel and still a remake.

Again I'm surprised Square Enix went so bold with such a beloved franchise instead of the easy cash grab of a 1 to 1 remake.

My friend told me he regret getting FF7 on pS5 affer seeing the sweet S mods.

Cloud suit mod is amazing here.

Oh I wholeheartedly agree. I started on the PS4/5 but when a deal came up for the PC version I switched to that and never looked back. The mods for this game are on another level. A lot of creative people out there.

Finished Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Re Mind DLC and now am officially fully caught up with the series minus the mobile stuff. I enjoyed it a lot. Not the best Kingdom Hearts game, but it was definitely good. Lots of fan service, answered a lot of questions, created some more. Can't wait until 4 (or anything in between) comes out, but before that I think I'm going to have to watch cutscenes from the mobile stuff as it seems like they're setting that up to be pretty important to the story moving forward.

Next game I'm playing is Broken Age. Been interested in it for a long time and it's on Game Pass now.

Currently playing

Death Stranding (PC)

Saints Row 2022 (PC)

Saints Row is pretty fun. not sure I'm playing the same game as the reviewers.

Death Stranding is ....... something. I've never been a big Kojima fan ( More Splinter Cell over MGS) but I respect how his games are unique. This however maybe a bit too much for me. I might drop this for something else in the backlog. Maybe. I will say that graphically it is stunning.

I felt exactly the same about death stranding, unique polished experience that just borders on nonsense but I can see why people like the crazy.

Death Stranding was a unique experience. I was able to finish the game but man, it's long lol.

I've been meaning to play it for the last 9 years, but I finally started Tomb Raider (Definitive Edition) on Series X. It runs great with FPS boost enabled. Still holds up surprisingly well.

I need to get around to that game some day. I think I own it digitally, don’t remember how I got it maybe GwG years ago.

Finished Broken Age in about a day and actually enjoyed it a ton. Now playing Wolfenstein 2 and about 10 hours in.

Finished Wolfenstein 2. Good game - liked it just about as much as the The New Order and thought there were a lot of good improvements. Lots of endgame content but didn't do much of that as it's mostly just a collect-a-thon.

Now just started Resident Evil (REmake). I played 7 a year or so ago and played 5 years ago randomly when it came out, but I've never played any other Resident Evil games so I've decided to work my way through the full series. Decided to do my first playthrough with Jill on Normal (the hardest available for first playthrough) and definitely finding it quite difficult. Quite a bit of trail and error and I've had to use guides for a few things, but overall enjoying it. Just stressing out about the ink ribbon save system.

Started Artful Escape as it's leaving Game Pass next week. The levels are absolutely gorgeously drawn. However, the story hasn't quite grabbed me, and the gameplay is non-existent. At least it's pretty.

Finished REmake and wow, can't believe I've gone over 30 years without that in my life. Great game and really gets me excited to go through the rest of the series. I beat it on normal with Jill and then did a quick Easy run with Chris to get the other side of the story. Was interesting to see parts that RE7 was obviously influenced by.

Next up I'm playing Metro Last Light Redux. I played Metro 2033 Redux a while ago and just never got around to playing Last Light or Exodus so I'm now making my way through that series as well.

Finished The Artful Escape today (it's leaving Game Pass tomorrow), and though I didn't find the story or gameplay as compelling as I'd hoped, the beautiful artwork that spans every single level was astounding.

Got to mission 4 of Guardians. Damn this game is 16 missions?!
I really enjoyed the writing and art presentation of that game. I do wish the gameplay was a little deeper like being able to fully control the rest of the team which I felt limited replay value.

Metro Last Light Redux is a good game. Gives off Wolfenstein vibes actually, but a much darker story and atmosphere.

Next up will be The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition.

Dropped Death Stranding. I respect Kojima for the Metal Gear series but this was just too weird for my tastes. And with the onslaught of October and November about to happen, it felt like the right thing to do.

Played and finished Deathloop on XSX. Apparently I missed ALOT of story threads the 1st time around on PC. Still it was a fun run through what I consider my GOTY for 2021. I love the soundtrack and most everything about the game. And the new HALPS laser is completely overkill. Was a murder diety with it.

Saint Row is mindless fun. Not taking it too seriously and just going with the flow.

Got Horizon Forbidden West (PS5) on a sale from Walmart. Gonna start that soon.

Finished As Dusk Falls (XSX). Very fun visual novel game. I'd say the 2nd act is the most dram filled as the 1st act sets up the characters and the final act concludes everything. Would love another game by this developer.

Started Trek to Yomi. Regret started on Easy Mode because apparently switching difficulties mid-game disables Achievements.

But wow what a cinematic game this is.

Edit: finished the game. What an epic journey that was.
