So ultimately as many of you surmised the decision to put MLB the show on gamepass was MLB. Not shocking.

Some felt it was a moneyhat by Phil Spencer to pay top dollar to put it on Game Pass day one.

MLB gets paid through more exposure on Xbox's platform and Gamepass and the studio gets the payment up front too from MS.

MS also has deals with developers and publishers to pay them based on the game activity, no payments are up front. Some games MS pays for the full development costs, and some games, MS pays upfront to have games put on the service. They don't say which devs/pub get which deal. They negotiate each one.

When I read about how flexible MSFT is with respect to deals for games for GamePass I was impressed. I don't know if that was Uncle Phil's call but who ever made it deserves a raise.

Nice. Wonder which one MLB the Show got.

I guess that’s why I see two separate commercials for each platform on YouTube...so many, why, it’s kinda pushing me away from my intrigue

Really?

isn’t it typical when a dev makes their first next gen attempt, like with madden and fifa being fully featured on current gen but their next gen first borns are pretty but lacking?

Yeah it sounds like they made major changes to Road to the Show, and made it much worse. Apparently you need to get gear and loadout your player like an RPG? It sounds horrible (and of course with pay to win microtransactions). That's basically the only mode I play. I'm just getting it off Game Pass anyway so I'll still give it a try. It is hard to tell if it is just buggy too and people aren't understanding it. Sounds like they just really changed it though.

If you are a major RTTS player and don't have Game Pass, might want to hold off for now and see how this shakes out.

If that’s the case that sucks. Glad I get to try it on GP.

I swear why do devs do this s*** to their games. It’s like that don’t give a damn about their fans.

Sports games seem to be the worst when it comes to microtransactions.

I'm only going by what I read on Operation Sports, but usually people there are pretty honest overall and not just salty at everything. There seems to be bugs though too and maybe they can patch it and make it more functional.

One person mentioned that at least you can do franchise mode and just position lock, but that isn't the same thing.

This is basically the only way I play sports games anymore. Building your own player and advancing was the only real fun.

Apparently though the gameplay is really good again.

Just watched some gameplay... It looks like a ps3 game wtflol
Mind boggling tbh, it's not like it's a game with lots of effects and stuff happening either.
Grass looks... Well, like a green road, faces looks like dreamcast era sports games. Animation looks okay I guess.

Edit: So apparently the 2 way player thing is only a short term thing. The game does a terrible job explaining any of it.

RTTS is really weird. They basically ask you what team's farm system you want to join, then tell you that you are a pitcher plus a hitter (lolwut).

I'm not really sure what they are going for. I didn't play last year's so maybe it was already going this way, but there's zero tutorials. Just jump right in a game and figure it out. I was a SS for 2 games then a DH, now a pitcher. It just makes no sense to me. You're just Shohei Ohtani no matter what I guess unless there's something I'm missing.

It is a shame, because the gameplay feels and looks great on the XSX, and the price is just right if you have Game Pass. It took me a few at bats to get the hang of the hitting again but it felt really good.

Sounds like it is best to hold off on RTTS for now unless you just want to mess around. Seems like a lot of issues that need fixing. The progression is off so there's not much point putting much time in other than to just practice.

From what a buddy told me as you advance you pick your position through conversations or something.

"Dude, I throw darts at 101 mph but I'm f***ing hyper so they moved me into Right Field"

Though to be honest, if there's a Paragon/Renegade interrupt to punch someone, I might have to download it, although I guess that would just make me an umpire.
