One key detail about the game though, is that according to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, the game will be developed by Sledgehammer Games. This is a key detail that Insider Gaming was able to corroborate, but it's understood that the title is a huge collaborative project across all of Activision's Call of Duty studios (like most of their CoD games these days).

Insider Gaming has been able to verify that this year's title is scheduled to have two Beta weeks, an early access campaign period, and a full marketing strategy consistent with past premium releases. In addition, we were also able to verify that the next entry will still be released on past-generation consoles.

Insider Gaming sources have revealed that this year's Call of Duty title will be called Modern Warfare 3 (Modern Warfare III). The title is in development by Sledgehammer Games (via Jason Schreier), but it's understood to be supported by various other Call of Duty studios, just like its predecessors.

It's been widely reported that Call of Duty 2023 was a "premium DLC" for Modern Warfare 2 and although that was the case at one time, this year's title is a fully-fledged sequel to Modern Warfare 2. Modern Warfare 3 will feature campaign, multiplayer, zombies, and a new Warzone 2 map during the title's first season.

Las Almas, the map found within the Modern Warfare 2 campaign will be Modern Warfare 3's fully-fledged Battle Royale map. It's understood that the map will launch during Season 1 – Which is currently penciled in to launch at the beginning of December.

For Modern Warfare 3 zombies, several sources have said that the mode is essentially an Outbreak 2.0. It's understood that Activision is currently weighing the possibilities on if the mode should be a part of the premium title or not, or if it makes more sense for the mode to be a free-to-play experience.

I thought they were skipping a year, no?

Yeah they were going to do an expansion to MW2, but now they changed and want to rush out a game.

The Treyarch game has always been 2024, so this is going to be some Sledgehammer rush job.

I'm hoping for the best, but I can only imagine it is going to be horribly rushed.

Probably going to include all the classic MW2 maps that are already on the WZ map.

Many of the classic maps are already part of the Warzone maps, so no surprise. They are holding them back for this game. This game is on a crazy short dev cycle.

They usually would have something out by now too, but we're past the big shows and such and still nothing.

Yeah this is going to be another Vanguard mess, or maybe worse. Vanguard was the first COD I ever skipped completely and I will likely skip this too unless the beta blows me away.

Them holding back the classic maps is just another slap in the face. I bet a lot of people will stick with MW2, just like a lot stuck with Cold War after Vanguard came out.

Actually MW got back popular towards the end of Cold War and throughout Vanguard.

It is comical how little they've shown on this game. Beta is supposedly 3 months away in early October.

I fired up a round of Cold War and remembered just how good that game was.

Was thinking they maybe held off until the acquisition went through to announce with MS... but that feels far off atm lol

Maybe Sony is making them hold off on showing it just yet, maybe they want to go out with a bang?

Yeah maybe they see which way the wind blows and then once final decision is known, they do marketing deal with that company.

Kotick said (last year and this) they haven’t been approached, by Sony, to negotiate a new contract. Whatever happens I don’t think they need to negotiate anything new, so long as tbey give the ok to continue to develop games for ps. Cos they already know, and have first hand experience, that Xbox will hold true their contracts if they were to buy abk (ie ghost wire Tokyo and deathloop). Hell they didn’t sign any contract for Minecraft or any of its spin-offs.

Anything is possible, but it is time to start hyping this game regardless. I'd assume they'd move forward without any platform specific deal. This is COD, they don't need any specific deal.

This was originally rumored to be an expansion, so I think it possible that this game is going to be really lacking.
