I’m really enjoying this. They’ve made the game play loop of hunting to upgrade so you can hunt more to be spot on. There is absolutely huge depth to the game. It’s funny because they have made the game that Destiny is trying so hard to be.

It’s official. I bit. Just downloaded. If you get drunk enough, it looks like Scalebound.

Anyone tried this co-op yet?

The best way to play is co op. It’s a complicated mess to get going with the system they use bit when you team up with some friends and take down an Anjanath, well, you’ll have a big ol stiffy in those pants.

It’s the best MMO open world type game i think I’ve ever played. And not because the story is good, because it’s your usual Japanese obscure mess, and not because multi player is easy, because like the story it’s another abstract s*** show until you understand it, no, it’s the best because they knew exactly what they wanted to give the players. Nearly every single thing you think will annoy you in the game, is there to make you want to fix it and there is a way to fix it through unlocks and upgrades. I highly recommend this game.

Figured out what the difference is with the high level armour. The A set comes with set skills but you get more right from the start. The B sets have less skills but have slots, in those slots you put decorations. Tge decorations have skills.

So, the B sets are for build building and customization.

That attack necklace thinh we got last night was a decoration, so you need a B piece of armour to use it.

So I've played this game for a few hours, with and without friends, as well as watch my son play it for a good while; I just don't get why people are talking this game up so much. I know there must be something I'm missing. For me the combat does not feel smooth. getting my character to attack in The direction I want him to is a hit or miss affair and when you do miss you have to wait forever for your character to finish his attack and flurish animations before you can adjust. Although this isn't as big of a deal with the fast light weapons.

Then the game loop is go off, track a big monster, beat on it forever until it dies, collect material, make/upgrade armor/weapons and go after different bigger super spongey monster.

Then they make it way more difficult than it needs to be to even get together with your friends.

Maybe my expectations were just too high after hearing people talk up this game. But tell me guys, if after playing for 4-5 hours and I'm not digging it at all, does it get better? If I put another 20+hours in am I going to be experiencing things that actually make the game more fun?

Think of it this way, you will get better at hitting targets. You will grow more powerful.

If the general game ethos of go hunt, fight, make/upgrade gear is why you don't like it then no, it wont get better.

For the camera go into settings and change the option to Target Camera and Target Large Monsters. That should help with not being able to target correctly. On the game play loop, nope it doesn’t change if you don’t like it now you won’t like it in 20 hours time. I think your wrong on the difficulty though. It takes about 15 / 20 to fight most monsters about 5 minutes of that is usually chasing it. Learning their move sets and how to fight them is the game. Research tells you about their attacks and weakness. Potions and prep gives you boosters etc. I’m nearly 80 hours in and only two monsters have really been a challenge so far.

Either way it just sounds like it is not for you.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll try that lock on mode and see if it helps. I'll give it a little more time and see if it grows on me.

menace-uk- so the 3 elder dragons you need to fight after Nergigante are basically the end of the game. There is one more mission after that and then the story mode is done. Windshield charms or armor pieces are meant to be great for fighting that wind dragon as it means he can't knock you back if you get the skill high enough.

I'm really enjoying my time with MHW. It took a bit for me to really get into it, but now that I'm familiar with the mechanics; I look forward to playing it.

It’s great fun dude. Really great fun.

Really digging the game but am finding it hard to play during the week. Seems like you need an hour at the very least to make meaningful progress. Also feeling pretty overwhelmed with the amount of content and systems in the game it can be a little hard and frustrating.

But that feeling you get when you finally hunt that bird creature after been chased around the map by an anjanath was a thing of beauty. I can't wait to go back and take it down. Just after I take down that damn barros.

Damn, this game is complicated. I just got it and I'm still in the training area trying to figure out which weapon I should start out with. I spent some time with the Sword & Shield but then noticed another weapon that looked similar and was cooler looking. But its a transforming weapon with some kind of charge ability that I don't quite understand. I can't wait to get back home to scan the web for videos of weapon tutorials.

Game of the year.....for me.

I'm so hooked on this game. I'm about 70 hours in and it feels like there is still so much more that awaits. I still haven't even finished the campaign because every time I encounter a new monster I farm it for resources to craft weapons and armor.

Capcom deserves a lot of credit for using their fighting game experience and applying it here. I felt like the monsters knew what I was doing and countered accordingly. And when I did some searching about monster AI sure enough that's exactly what Capcom did. They made it so the game considers your button inputs and then has the monster come up with a counter. And boy do they ever counter, hahaha.

I've played mostly with the Charge Blade. Its a beastly weapon that does tons of damage. But recently I decided I needed a change and tried out the Switch Ax which is really cool. But I have settled on the Light Bowgun for some ranged combat after being in melee range for so long. It feels really good to strafe these giant monsters but the down side is it takes a little longer to kill things. And after playing for this long I'm still figuring out how best to spec my character to do the max amount of damage.

There are still a lot of other weapons for me to try. There are monsters I have yet to fight and free content updates coming in at a steady stream from Capcom.

Monster Hunter World does GaaS right.

I encourage all to give this awesome game a try. Its magnificent.

I couldn't get into the combat for some reason. Felt really clunky to me.

It very much is clunky, pretty much by design. I probably only played as much as I did because I found the weapon type I could deal with.

As a newcomer to the series I've always found it strange that every weapon is always massive and looked so slow to use. Thankfully I really took to the longsword (which I understand is pretty vanilla). I should get back into this some time.

Combat felt clunky to me too. But after a while you get a handle on the timing of things and then the combat and movement start to flow. I guess its like any other game where if you put in the time and build up that muscle memory it all starts to click. I think weapons are over sized because you're hunting these huge beasts and they look freakn' cool.

I don't like playing co-op with Longsword players. The sweeping attacks have a nasty habit of interrupting my attacks and I end up getting smacked by the monster. However, now that I've started to get to know the light bowgun and keep my distance that issue shouldn't be a problem. I just don't like it when a Longsword player starts to go ham on a monster without regards for the rest of the team. There is no friendly fire but you can and will interrupt and or knockback your teammates.

I really try not to screw with others. Vertical attacks when teammates are nearby.

I'm suddenly having a real urge to play this. Later tonight, think I'll go help some lower level players on that Anjanath side mission.

Free trial on PS4:

FREE TRIAL (PS4)
Available starting today, the MH: World free trial on PS4 will be live today through May 20th and will feature content straight from the full game, up until the completion of the Tobi-Kadachi assignment quest at Hunter Rank 4.

You’ll be able to start your journey, create your Hunter and Palico companion, and access all the features the game has to offer up until that point in the story (HR4). This means you’ll also be able to play with other hunters online, and even partake in the Spring Blossom Fest, one our many seasonal events.

Also, let’s not underestimate the amount of content packed into those early missions. You’ll get to explore two ample environments, each with a variety of monsters to hunt, vistas to take in, endemic life to discover, lots of gear to craft, 14 different weapon types to try out and Palico gear. And once you’ve decided to convert to the full game (which is current on sale for just $19.99 on the PlayStation Store [LINK], btw!), your entire progress will carry over so you can pick up exactly where you left off in the free trial.

Here's the reveal trailer for the Iceborne expansion coming 9/6:

I bought this back in November and still haven't opened it yet.
