New kombat kast today showing off Fujin, they also offered a quick look at the "retrokade" background which is pretty cool.
Skip ahead to about 14:00 for the actual start and a the quick look at the retrokade background is at 42:45

I personally find Fujin a very boring looking character.... I can't decide if his looks are trying to hard or to less.

I really like him, then again I've wanted them to bring him back for the last 3 games and they are finally doing it. I'm still pissed about Rain not coming back though, I'd much rather have Rain than any of the guest characters they've had, especially the Joker.

Agreed, the purple Rain prince should be a first choice imo

I've owned this game since launch and have put in less than an hour into it. I'm so bad at fighting games. That said, my recent addiction to combos is SoR4 and previous addiction to DMC 5 has given me another itch to try overcoming my fighting game suck. Any tips for a newb?

Play on easy and try to pick up one character at a time, go through their character tower, go to the command list and look up the combos etc.

Yeah I don't even play online partly because of my internet and otherwise I'd probably get destroyed. It's a casual fun game to go a few rounds without feeling committed to a campaign, though the story mode is really well done.

If you're looking up moves and I think press Y on the XBox controller, the highlighted move will display on the screen for reference. That's good for referencing combos and special moves.

Or do the tutorial as far as you car to. For what it's worth, individual character tutorials unlock skins when finished. I never finished all the advanced stuff like combos canceling into combo chains.

Who's a balanced character to start with?

I couldn't tell ya, I stick with my favorites every game lol. With this one I've mostly played with Raiden, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Shao Kahn and Jax. I'm not really great at these games either I just love the lore etc and for some reason these characters have a special place in my gamer heart lol.

I still remember going to the liquor store and seeing the first one and how crazy it seemed for the time, then the second one came out and looked so much better, then going to a local mini golf/arcade place to play the 3rd one etc. I remember all of the ads for the SNES/Genesis versions when they were coming out and the controversy with Nintendo and the fatalities. I guess that was a good time in my life, I was 19 and not worried about a whole lot lol so this series will always be something I'm into regardless of how much I suck at playing them compared to most people.

Aftermath is bloody amazing. Worth every penny IMO. I love the ridiculous Saturday-morning-cartoon-for-adults story, lol. And Some of that fight choreography is just fantastic. I love Shang Tsung's actor's expressions and mannerisms. Just perfect! I want more! Already beat it once. Now to make different choices!

I finally got Aftermath installed plus nVidia stuff.

I haven't started the new story, but Robocop is a fvcking tank.

Undecided on Fujin, his powers are both cool and weird. I am fond of 'God' characters like Raiden and Cetrion, but undecided on him.

Sheeva is decent. I like the 4 step stomp throw move lol.

Heads up if you didn't notice, the character towers now all have a 6th tower.

I wondered if anyone here even fiddles with the Augment System in this game? I didn't even bother with it for a long time until this dropped than I tried slotting Augments. I think it's really lame that the slots are attached to Gear pieces so that you lose the slots if you find another gear you like and have to level them up.

Anyway, I completed all 6 Robocop character towers and leveled up the Gear he has to slot Jinsei Augments. These significantly affect game play. One I put in causes his Gun Special to shoot 3 Mini-Bursts instead of just 3 Shots. Another extends the range of the Flame Thrower. There is another that can add limited tracking to the missile.

It's new content to grind, but it's pretty rewarding when you get it.

Update:

Okay getting the last of the gear to level is really freakin slow. If you want to do this, look for Soul Gear that gives you Gear XP bonuses to speed it up.

Anyway, here are some very clear results with enhanced Raiden trashing Geras. You'll notice the Electricity Bubble is much bigger now and it added a multiplier to the Lightning Strikes.

Of course, I have to end with my favorite BRUTALITY.

Robocop VS. Terminator

I love that T.J. Laser intro.

Robocop here has extended Electro Shield plus his Gun fires Mini-Bursts instead of just single shots.

I've gotten burned out on leveling up in the towers, they want you to play 70-80 matches sometimes to be able to earn the brutality etc.

Have you done the Character towers? Those are a straightforward way to unlock content including the Intros and Outros.

Also, if you play a in The Towers of Time and any tower unlocks Brutal Difficulty turned it on to see the rewards offered. Sometimes replaying with Brutal Difficulty will offer Skins or Brutalities.

I think they changed the towers more with the expansion, it didn't used to take as long but I was doing some brutality hunting and they wanted 24 fatal blows and 25 fatalities and 18 brutalities all in one tower so you have to not only do complete the matches in that tower but go to the other towers and keep playing forever.

With that, one thing that wasn't apparent at first is I think you can do multiple towers at once. For example in a fresh game get Raiden up to say Tower 4 than purchase and summom the tower for Sub-Zero. Get him up to Tower 4 and purchase and summon another tower like say Johnny Cage. With 3 character towers up to 4 you could casually playing Raiden, Sub-Zero, or Johnny Cage and when they do Fatal Blows, Brutalities, or Fatalities it'll count towards their summoned tower. That way you don't have to just play on character grinding and keep some variety.

Unfortuately, it's not convenient to track your progress, but I think it does contribute.

Also, for a while there was a cheat where if you start a Fatal Blow then stop then restart the round, it still counts. So if you use the Konsumable that gives you Fatal Blow right away, you can speed grind it out. That's how I got a lot of Fatal Blow requirements done.

Yeah I was doing that with the fatal blow thing too until I ran out of that konsumable lol. The ones where they ask you to spill a certain amount of blood are ridiculous lol.

Certain finishers seemed to go through Spilt Blood faster. Oddly enough the uppercut Brutality seemed to get through it decently.

Returned to Spawn's character tower to finish level 5. It's a bit grindy, but I tried one of his other powers for 'Easy Krushing Blows' and it's very satisfying and devastating.

The way the power was described, I didn't think I'd like it, but it may be a new favorite feature of the character. Basically, all pre-requisites to make his moves perform a Krushing Blow are removed. You can easily do like 5 Krushing Blows in a row it looks so savage.

As for Spawn overall, I'm surpised at how few straight up Magic Attacks he has relying mostly on the chains and guns.

At some point, I will probably do the new Level 6 unlocking Spawn's Jinsei Augments. I might do some videos posts of these showing how they mod the characters in different ways.

I've been farming the last stage of Tower 6 for the new Jinsei Augments getting different power modifications. Spawn is a beast now. The Terminator has an insane Armor Buff option. One interesting change is I setup Cetrion's aura power to actually be effective now. One version with the Fire Aura and one that allows Vapor to repeatedly freeze the enemy.

I revisted The Forge in The KRYPT and Googled for some recipes. Shard of Life heals and the others are good effective weapon Konsumables to refill at The Forge if you have the Forge Items.

Special Forces Radio is a really good one to just spam along with a second one like Takeda's Kunai explosive daggers or Riot Grenade. Then keep healing and bombing your way through.

{ FORGE RECIPES }

Shard of Life : Coagulated Vampire Blood Element of Order Copper Plating

Special Forces Radio : Frayed Wiring Circuitry Bundle Copper Plating

Takeda’s Kunai : Synthetic Fiber, Handful of Flux

Homing Missile : Frayed Wiring, Miniature Explosive Charge

Riot Grenade : Charged Capacitor Circuitry Bundle

Flash Grenade : Carbon Film Resistor Copper Plating

Meteorite Core : Meteorite Dust, Outworld Steel
