In an interview with Twinfinite, Microsoft’s Aaron Greensberg discussed a lot about the current state of Xbox Game Studios. When it came to talking about acquisitions, he put over how much talent they currently have and that, for the time being, there probably won’t be any major acquisitions in the near future. He leaves the door open for it to eventually happen, just not soon.

“It’s been exciting and it’s been great getting to know all these teams, going out and sitting down with Ninja Theory, or the team at Obsidian or inXile, and seeing the stuff that they’re working on now that people know about and the secret things they have in the works that people don’t know about yet. We’ll in time be sharing more about those

Always boggles the mind how people lose all reading comprehension whenever MS makes any statements and just come with the most sideways takes.

It's always the case. MS makes it ain and simple and yet people want to take things out of context just so they can try to run something on youtube.

It is pathetic.

Tomonobu Itagaki should have been head of Japan on Xbox and things would have been very different. We had the best Japanese games like DOA and Ninja Gaiden and now we have nothing.

Is he still making games? I thought he left his Valhalla studio, which he helped form. And wasn’t there some scandal and or allegations against him with employees? Dono if they were current or former employees at said time.

He seemed like the obvious pick for MS since he had a strong relationship with Xbox during the OG Xbox era with Ninja Theory.

I don't know about being the head of Xbox Japan considering his past behaviour with employees at Tecmo, but he should've definitely been approached to bring new projects to Xbox. It was a missed opportunity. Xbox can have some sort of base offering with Itagaki, Sakaguchi, Tabata and Suehiro (Swery) from Japan. It might not make a dent over there but I'm thinking it would be a good start offering a steady stream of quality Japanese franchises for Xbox.

I hope. And Remedy

My guess is going to be Bloober Team or Deck13. Of course, I would love to see Asobo, Dontnod or Remedy. They have all been killing it with AA game experiences. If they can get the support of MS, we could very well see their output and quality increase with more teams on more projects.

I thought it was because he wasnt getting paid. Regardless, when he makes games it sold very well on xbox every time. Now those titles with this fake team ninja is nothing but a joke.

MS should just bring him in.

Why would MS want to buy Remedy? they've just ended a years long exclusive relationship with them because their games haven't sold well, why would they go out and buy them which would cost a lot more than the deal they just got out of? I'm not talking just the purchase price but they'd be taking on a bunch of new employees etc.

Why ask why? Theyre a great SP narrative driven dev - exactly what the platform needs.

Why are you even concerned about their wallet? MS just dropped 50 mil on a streamer's head two weeks ago. 50 million for Ninja. Xbox isn't on a tight budget for studio acquisitions. They will take action if they think a studio is a good fit.

Remedy has shown they can produce a AA game in a reasonable timeframe now. Control seems like it's Remedy's Hellblade in that sense. They also have a long history of working together. You should be asking why it hasn't happened instead.

That's like asking why Sony purchased Insomniac. Insomniac hasn't shown success from their last two high profile original IPs (Fuse & Sunset Overdrive). But there is no doubt about their talent. But the question is without the popularity of something established like Spiderman will they be able to find success. We'll have to wait and see. Remedy is much like Insomniac in that they are very talented and make great games but for whatever the reasons haven't found huge success and recognition they deserve. It'll happen one day I'm sure and MSFT's platform would be served well with a developer like Remedy.

I am sure of they didn't had Spiderman the next title will be in the same stage like sunset overdrive.

I'm not concerned it just doesn't make sense from a business perspective.

Remedy hasn't had a hit in forever, Insomniac just put out a game that sold 13 million copies and they have a long history of games that sell in the millions, the only two that haven't done well were an xbox exclusive and a multiplatform title. The first two resistance games sold over 7 million combined, and the ratchet and clank remake sold better than any game in the series before it and it always was a successful series.

Remedy doesn't have anywhere near the pedigree that Insomniac does, nobody hits a homerun on every release but Remedy hasn't had a hit since the first Max Payne over 15 years ago.

Not if nobody is playing their games. A small handful of people talk about how great they are but Alan Wake and Quantum Break both sold poorly so why invest millions into taking on another studio if they have proven they aren't a good fit for your audience?

Microsoft has to expand their audience. Especially with gamepass.

But even if they want Remedy we don't know that Remedy wants them

Yes they do but they've been trying to expand their audience with Remedy since 2006 and it hasn't worked for them for some reason, if it had they'd still be working exclusively with each other.

Control proves Remedy still has the Dev chops. With the new initiative for XGS and gamepass, Remedy would do well with Microsoft.
