lol, takes so much horsepower to pull of realistic crowds, GT4 had better than DC or Forza lol, it being all about hardware.

But what does Forza 5 have that GT4 doesn't? Alright then.

I can't really tell if the ones on the balcony are 3D or 2D... But I don't think it effects the quality of the graphics at all.

I'd you can't be sure, does it matter? Its not like the driver is 2D... Or is he?

We could just show Horizon 2 which has all 3d crowds, plus looks fantastic, plus is open world.

What I find irritating is how ludicrous the "argument" is. The game has 3d "crowds in it. It also uses 2d sprites in areas where it makes sense. The game is a rock solid 60fps. It's a step up from F5 that certainly had it's moments graphically. They have dealt with the nasty aliasing from F5, they have added better effects, and they have increased the car-on-track count. All with new physics and meaningful gameplay enhancements. That's pretty awesome.

Yet somehow the game (and let's face it, this isn't about the game, but a dig on the console) is a graphical dud because it uses 2d sprites for crowds in some of the less visible areas. Guess what- I guarantee GT will have 2d sprite crowds too.

Game doesn't have best graphics of all time (even though still great)= Ugly. Yep, makes sense.

lol Godzilla, can't wait to sit through delays for a mediocre game.
Eh, it could be amazing. With every iteration it has that possibility, but that's a looooonnnng time to wait for a racer. It should be that good if it takes so damn long.

I wouldn't consider GT a mediocre series. It definitely sits near the top, regardless if I like the Forza series better. I'm pretty keen to see GT7, myself.

Let's hope it isn't Godzilla, though. It's certainly big enough, but do we want that kind of "quality"?

Hmm... Is the sun rendered in 3D? If the solar flares and the occlusion aren't rendered in full 3D... Lol FALE.

VFX Vet posted lots of stuff on esrlier that was very convincing about techniques and technologies that were or weren't important, but at the end of the day, I can't tell if a pedestrian has sub surface scattering, or if an assault rifle is casting real time paralax-Botox...

Does the method used have to justify the outcome of the beauty?

Its like, a beautiful woman, and a beautiful post-op transgendered woman.

If you didn't know any better, at the end of the day, you'll still appreciate them in porn. One just took more work to get there.

The whole derail didn't make sense, the xb1 needed to make compromises to achieve 60fps, crowds are 2d lol. What about that mile long strip of 3d crowds I posted? Did the xb1 morph into a high end PC for that portion of the track? No. So obviously 3d crowds aren't that taxing on hardware or else you'd see ZERO 3d crowd models.

It was sitting at the top, its Poly's core philosophy on development that changed, and destroyed their once top tier quality. They already stated they are keeping ps2 car models.

PS2. Two generations ago. Even then we could have 2 more forza games by the time we see GT7(we've already had 3 since GT6) and I wouldn't doubt if EVERY single of one of them outscores GT7.

Everything taxes the system in some way, obviously. The trick is figuring out how to maximize your performance, and the cost/benefit of each asset use. You just aren't going to get dense 3d crowds (no one ever points out that the 'amazing' Drive Club doesn't have instances of large crowds, so it doesn't need to resort to "billboard" people) because you have to have animation and bones inside each person. That's using a lot of resources on something that has zero to do with playing the game.

Obviously atmosphere is important, and I will certainly take a 3d spectator over a 2d one if it doesn't sacrifice performance. Forza 6 is taking the right approach in that close up, people are 3d, and obscured or distant fans are 2d. It looks great, and while I do notice the 3d, moving crowds, I'd have to stop to even be able to tell the 2d ones are actually 2d because they have done a good job at balancing that out.

Val's criticism was brought up to belittle the X1. There isn't much logical thinking in it. There are better observations to make in a graphics thread. For instance-

The lighting is baked in Forza, and not in games like DC or Project Cars. However, a responsible critic would note that neither of the 2 games can touch Forza on Framerate. They all use Physically based materials and lighting though. They all have strengths and weaknesses, and instead of digging into them we get "Forza has Cardboard people, so Xbox sucks". Awesome use of the thread.

60 FPS locked, no tearing.

Got to admire that rock solid performan... CROWD LOOKS LIKE BOILED c***!

What I love about Turn 10, and have utter respect for, is that performance and consistency for the driving is the #1 overriding concern. They never sacrifice control for shininess, and yet still manage to produce a beautiful game. Big thumbs up. What's sad is that there are people who will never admit this.

I find it interesting that the commentator on that vid brings up the dynamic lighting in other games but ignores that those games have less than solid framerates. GT5 could get downright sketchy due to the graphics processing. The only way Turn 10 will ever do it is if it doesn't hit that framerate. I suspect that we will see it before this Gen is through though.

Oh. You made a mistake then. Forza 5 doesn't have 24 cars on track at once. Only 16.
