My descent into madness.....

I don't think I'm brave enough to tackle my Backlog of games. :(

A TON of Steam games, plus my Xbox 360 library.

Good luck sir!

I really need to do the same thing. I have at least 2 games in my backlog (Dishonored and the Walking Dead season 1 comp) that I really want to play before getting new consoles, but I'm worried I'll just spend all my time on GTA and Diablo instead.

When I became a parent I realized that having a backlog will now be a permanent and expanding thing.

If I weren't so damned impulsive I wouldn't be in this mess :) I have at least 30 or more games sitting there that I'll likely never play. Specially since we started seeing some decent sales on xbox.

I actually sold the vast majority of backlog a few weeks ago. Felt weird to sell games I never even played a second of.

My question is how do you even have enough time to play these games? Seems like you'd have to devote your entire life to just playing these if you actually plan to make it through them sometime in the next year.

That's where I luck out with my job.....I work from home. Now that school is in session again, I can try to dedicate maybe 3 hours a day just to knock out most of these games. If it wasn't for me working from home, honestly, I wouldn't even bother.

Ah, the good life :)

Seeing that list you posted...I just wonder. What the hell have you been playing this whole generation?

I dunno man, 3 hrs a day hardly seems like enough time to get through that list you posted. If you're dedicated you might clear 2 games/week, but looks like you'll be doing that for over a year!

Are you not buying a new console at launch then?

No. I'm waiting on next gen consoles. Got too many games to play now, and there's nothing at launch that's console exclusive that's a must have for me.

Ok, with next gen looming over us, I've come to the realization, that if I don't plow throw my extremely large backlog of games, I may never do so.
So, I've decided to start playing through my backlog. It's now or never. The list is wayyyyy to long. For games with difficulty settings, I will play at the easiest, just to get them out of the way. My plan, to get through rather short games at maybe 2 games a week. I won't include longer sandbox type of games, since I can play those for months on end.

So right now, I descend into madness....with Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Just curious...is this for achievements or simply to just finish games, i.e., ones with a distinctive storyline that have an actual ending?

Wayyyyyy too large, but maybe not as large as some others.

I have a bunch of games, but these are the ones that I'm going to try (I won't even list the ones I have no plans on playing or have flat out given up):

The list above doesn't even include current games that I play on a regular basis like:
BO2
Skyrim
BF3
Diablo 3

Honestly, I haven't even started to get to playing most of these games....because the list just seems so overwhelming, but Steam/Amazon/Gamefly sales have been my weakness.

AW:American Nightmare
Alice:Madness Returns
Amnesia (started yesterday)
Batman Arkham City
Bioshock 1
Bioshock2
Brothers in Arms (all of them)

Bulletstorm
Company of Heroes
Darksiders
Darksiders 2
Deadlight
Dead Space 3
Deuz Ex: Human Revolution
Dragon Age (start, need to finish)
Dragon Age 2
Dungeon Siege 3
FEAR 2
FEAR 3

Fallout New Vegas
Gears of War 3
Halo 4 (started, but not finished)
Hitman: Absolution

Hitman: Absolution (On PC)
Just Cause 2
Krater
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Left 4 Dead 2 (better with friends)
Mafia 2
Mass Effect 1 - 3
Max Payne 3
Medal of Honor Warfighter
Neverwinter Night (want to play through the BG2 mod)
Red Orchestra 2
Saints Row" The Third
Socom 4
Spec Ops: The Line
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Splinter Cell: Convinction
Star Craft 2
Tomb Raider (started, but need to finish)
Torchlight 2 (started, but need to finish)
Uncharted 3
Walking Dead
Witcher 2
(started but need to finish)
Xcom: Enemy Unknown

Prioritize that list. Some of those games are old and have dated gameplay. Others just aren't that good and some you want to give 50 hours to. You don't want to rush through New Vegas or the Mass Effect Trilogy. Especially the Mass Effect Trilogy because so much of what you did in those earlier games effects the final outcome.

Also, Xcom: Enemy Unknown. You might have a lot more fun with that game playing on a more unforgiving (but not difficult setting). The game was built to be played with just one autosave function. So there are consequences to making mistakes.

If this is the first time you are playing New Vegas you might want to just play it on PC with all the best mods etc. etc.. as well as the 5 DLC. New Vegas will be 60+ hours. Not something you want to rush through.

Good for you Qbert. Play what you want to play, at your own pace, and on your own terms.

I still play Xbox and PS2 games that I missed back in the day.

And I plan on buying a PS3 in a couple months, so I still have the entire PS3 library to go through (most multi-plats I've already played on my 360, though). I'm in absolutely no rush to go next-gen. In fact, I'm not entirely sure I'll be investing in the next-gen at all, actually, but that's a topic for another day :p

No, not achievements. I just want to actually get to play all those games I purchased. For far too long, I've spent way too much time dedicated to CoD games, and just recently, I was like....F that, CoD isn't even that good. I've missed out on so many great games that I actually own, to play a sub par shooter with my cousins.

Damn that's a lot of purchases lol!

I have a tough time finishing games, finishing in regards to single player campaign games, most of the time, the game bores me so much that I'd rather jump into multiplayer and play against real people.

I think the last actual single player game I finished was Half-life 2. Well...technically I've finished the Diablo 3 story several times, but I don't count that.

Everything else tho like Halo Reach, Halo 4, the COD games, Gears of War, racing games, RPGs, etc...I rarely ever finish them.

I wish there was another game like Half-life that had a great story to it...maybe I'll finish GTA V.

Yeah, it's a lot of purchases, but other than the console exclusives (Halo 4, SOCOM, Gears of War 3), they're all on pc, and nearly all of them were purchased extremly cheap or part of bundles.

Outside of the console exclusives, I'd say I've spent less than $300 on all those games. Not bad for that many games.

Hell....that's not including other games that I'm "thinking" of getting back to. For example, I never finished my HL:Orange Box.

HL2 before the episodes, is freaking amazing. The story and environment is just a great sci-fi world. I need to play the episodes and finish those because those are suppose to be amazing too.

I've never been as immersed as I am when I play Half-life, it's just something about the characters, world, and gameplay that always draw me in.

With a wife, kids, job(regardless of it being at home), and time spent on these gaming forums, how do you manage to play as much as you do? I'm not knocking you, but bearing similar responsibilities as yourself, I find little time to play more than 3-5hrs a week. Anymore and I feel I'm neglecting my wife and kids...guess it's a personal perspective.

Looking at the list of games you posted and your timeframe for completing them is mind boggling...more power to you I suppose.

My kids are in school. I have plenty of time during the day while they're out to play games. :)

My timeframe is also not to have them completed before next gen gets here.....I'm not buying into next gen. My plan is to at least have most of the short sp games finished by this year's end. I'll use next year to cut down on the longer games.

There you go, a list further defined.
