My gaming story in 2020. More time spend waiting for download & update then playing the games!

EVERY damn game needs to update with massive GBs data every few days, new games have over 60+GB file size easily. MY download speed is about 1GB/hr. TYpical download speed is 650KB/S, yes KB.

I just got Gears 5, & it will take me (according to steam) 1 day 3 hours......for part 1 of 2. On the same day. I have 3 other games that need GB size updates. Fortnite has a "small 1.6GB" updates which will take me ONLY 2 hours to download, which means Gear 5 will takes me 2 hours more. That is assuming I don't stream video or play any online game, as they will be slowed to a tortoise pace or lagville.

I download the CoD MW campaign a few days ago. Playtime about 5 hours top, download time, 16 hours or so.

A friend told me, after about almost 2 weeks, he finally downloaded finish Warzone on his PS4. Internet is super expensive but third world standard unless you pay through the roof here. but I need to look for ways to cut weekly sub somewhere to get faster internet bandwidth, but not for at least months away due to the current situation.

Did I mention my hard disks' space is being destroyed? I have maybe 3.5TB space but constantly have to delete games. It wasn't such a big deal if download them again took days now.

A typical size town in Germany .
Up to 150 mb/s will cost 39,99euro, 400mb/s 49,99 from Unitymedia.

It takes ONLY 19 hours now before for item 1 of 2 for gears 5, after downloading the whole day yesterday.....Madness to have to wait 2-7 days to play a game after paying.
The record was warzone that took me 1.5 week.
While I am downloading, there is another GBs download from a warzone again. Yesterday was Fortnite. I spend less time playing then downloading.

Maybe time to get another hobby, like reading. AT least e-book download size is small.

You don't need that much. I have 100mb down and I download patches in no time (big ones take an hour or so). Note that some companies have been throttling download speeds even more lately with the whole corona virus as well, so things may be temporarily worse. I downloaded the Gears patch yesterday while working from home. Don't know how long it took, but it was done between the morning and lunch time.

You'd be fine with 25 mb/s. You can queue updates up before you go to bed and be done by morning. Even 10 would be ok. The problem with Xbox is it never seems to update automatically, so you go to play and get hit with a ton of them.

You shouldn't need to pay a ton for decent internet.

Thanks. There is no plan below 150mb/s from Unitymedia. I have 700kb/s since forever, so it has little to do with the virus. Maybe I can cut the gym membership that cost me 30€ a month & I have not been there for ages.

My download speeds were slower than that on satellite. I only had 20GB per month of data on top of the pitiful speeds. I'm updating games using my cell phone now waiting until the newly installed fiber lines in this area are put into service.

I feel for you. I hope the wait isn't long.
