So unfortunately my five-year-old Panasonic plasma died on me last weekend . Have started looking at new TVs to replace it with and I honestly feel I'm taking several steps backwards because I love the plasma picture technology based on multiple reviews I have read of the new TVs .

However I've narrowed it down between a Sony model xbr55x810c and the Sony x850d witch is a new 2016 model . I went to this site www.rtings.com and read the reviews .

It seems that the only real big vantage of the 850 D model is the addition of HDR picture Technology . The 810C model does not offer full HDR. After doing some research and it seems like there could be a format for between Dobly HDR and other competitor Using the same technology . Is HDR with it right now ??? Or is this something that will be more mainstreamed 3 to 5 years from now .

The 850d model at Best Buy will run about 1400.00. The cheaper 810c model will run about 900.00. After reading the reviews from that website I posted above it looks like the cheaper 810C model has a slightly better picture than the new more expensive model. The 810c also uses a VA panel which peers to have better contrast and deeper blacks then the IPS panel The more expensive model has .

From my research the IPS is better for wider viewing angles but I will always be viewing my TV head on. So the question is , do you guys think it's worth the 500 more for the more expensive model with HDR or is the cheaper 810c the better value and bang for the buck . Is HDR a game changer at this point in time ??

Here are the links for the two review ...

One thing that I noticed though after reading some reviews is not supporting Amazon video ? And do you cast everything from your phone ? Meaning it doesn't have any built-in applications? I could always move my PS4 into that room and hook it up .

So there was only one Best Buy store in Virginia that had this TV in stock. And you can only get it at Best Buy for some reason . I live in central VA ( Richmond) so I drove all the way to Northern Virginia right outside of Washington DC to pick it up (about an hour and a half drive ) and when i got back home, brought it in the house, unboxed it and it's got a f****** crack all the way down the center of the screen. Only me dude.. only me.. Smh

oh man.... they need 2 reimburse you for this.

Let me how things turn out man.
Got the new set today . this one worked like a charm . Even in standard HD for my Verizon FiOS channels I immediately noticed a better display than my Panasonic Plasma. Black levels look just as good as the Panny plasma as well. Everything Looked incredible.

But boy when i fired up Marco Polo on Netflix and was streaming it in 4k with HDR enabled.. All I can say is wow just WOW. HDR is DEFINITELY the real deal. It looked flat-out amazing. I swear I feel like I got a $4,000 display for only 1300. I can't thank you enough for recommending this set . I definitely owe you for this.

Definitely the best display I've ever seen in person . And still cant get over the price for what i got . Now I wish I had spend the extra money and got this in the 65 inch size! Using the 6" tablet that was included for the remote has been a great experience as well. I love the wireless charging dock that was included with it too and you can use the tablet for personal use as well. That even adds more value for this set as far as what you're getting.

You can also download that app on any smartphone and it will function the same. I'm definitely digging the casting technology verses having all of that stuff built into the television. It's a lag free smooth experience. Apps will update 10 times faster going this route. I am trying hard to find something wrong which I can do with pretty much anything and that's not the case here . i definitely would give it an A plus raiting. I would highly recommend this set to anybody.

Sweet man :) My buddy has the 65 and absolutely luvs it.
You can do 1080p/120hz on the PC btw.

I would never buy a Vizio, they make low quality s*** for real, the reliability of their sets sucks. A buddy of mine had several of their higher end sets and had multiple problems with the logic boards going bad. TV looked phenominal when it worked though.

You own a edge lit LG though...

LG makes the screens for many sets like Vizio. With any set one should buy the extended warranty.

The panels but doesn't mean they make the electronics. I'm just calling it how I see it brotha, my buddy swore by the higher end Vizios and had the logic boards fail in 2 different TV's and 1 of them it happend twice. I never said the higher end one's don't look good because they certainly do, that is when they work lol.

I had a 1080p Full Array LED set(which I sold 2 a buddy) from them that is now 6 years old and its been great.
All brands can produce duds that's why I suggested the warranty.
I have a 65inch 4K Full Array LED from LG and when its the 2nd as the 1st was shot when it came here.

I'm thinking of getting the 50 inch Vizio for my bedroom, I have a 44 inch LG now but it's about 7 years old and I'm feeling the itch to upgrade. The P series that Val recommended gets high marks for gaming too which is obviously a plus for anyone on this site. I know there are higher end TV's etc but I don't want to break the bank on one and this series sounds like it's pretty high quality for the money.

The thing is...these sets outperform the other sets minus the oled ones and I would debate that. With 4k I wouldn't go under 55inches unless I sat 3-4 feet from it.

If this were for my living room I'd get a bigger one for sure but it's for my bedroom which isn't all that big and I am basically less than 5 feet from the screen so I think the 50 should be ok.

You right . I returned my 55 inch today and upgraded to the same model in 65 inches . Well worth the 700 difference . My living room is pretty large with vaulted ceiling's and the 55 at 8 feet away was just too small . Man the 65 inch made a huge difference . Also the 55 inch I had had a ips panel and the 50 and 65 and 75 have a va panel . I could notice the difference right away with the improved contrast ratio for the va panel . Very nice

Double congratulations I own a 65 inch LG and imo 65inch is the perfect size and does 4k justice.

You might want think about the 55. One thing I noticed when watching 4K content you have to sit much closer to really appreciate it .

I would if it was for a bigger room but my bedroom is a medium/smallish size and I think 55 may be too big. I sit no more than 5 feet from the screen (probably less) so hopefully the 50 will be ok.

Remember that pixel density with 4K content increases as you go smaller, but you also have to sit closer to enjoy the benefits of 4K resolution. I wouldn't go smaller than 60 with 4K depending on how far you sit away from the screen.

Well pq wise oled is the best but than theirs cost to factor in and potential burn in. The HDR demos of the Reference series Vizio went toe 2 toe with oled sets.
The newer P series are just a step below the R series but much cheaper then both it and the oled.

PQ for the win and at 2k it's still THE set to own if I am reading the above correctly.
