Numerous Apple iPhone and iPad and Mac users were shocked to find their devices had been hacked and locked this weekend as a message reading, "Device Hacked By Oleg Pliss" appeared on their screens.
While we've seen a rash of new ransomware malwares showing up on Android devices recently, thus far no such attack has targeted Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod users. In the case of this recent hack by unknown attacker, Oleg Pliss, it seems likely users' iCloud accounts have been breached, allowing the hacker to gain control of their accounts and lock them. The attacker is demanding victims pay a ransom of $100 to have their devices unlocked. While this is certainly inconvenient, the good news is, users files are not being encrypted as with ransomwares like Cryptolocker, and getting one's iPhone unlocked is not terribly difficult.
