New Oculus Quest Pro VR Headset - Preorder Up, Priced At $1500

Curious about the price, and who this headset is actually for. Looking forward to the Meta Connect show on 10/11, when they actually reveal more.

Pricy, but this was the suspected price from some of the trusted leakers and VR tech breakdown specialists, like Sadlyitsbradly, aka Brad Lynch. Keep in mind that this thing has folded optics, self-tracked controllers, facial tracking, PS5-like feedback triggers, and color passthrough cameras/ir scanner for AR, as well

Worth noting that the controllers are backward compatible with the Quest 2, and will be available for... $300. Keep in mind that they both have internal cameras and processor, and come with a charging dock, since a single AA probably won't make it through a session. (Unlike the Quest Touch controllers, where a single AA in each lasts for many hrs)

f*** that. I'd rather go for Valve's Index and I thought that was too expensive.
At 1K vs 1.5K? I think that the Quest 2 is a MUCH better deal than either, honestly. Yeah, there's a little less FOV and limited finger tracking, but it's a better resolution, and doesn't require a lighthouse for headset tracking. You also gain a wireless PCVR option. Even at its new $400 price tag, it's still the best deal, IMO... but at this point, I might wait until this time next year.

I think Quest Pro is mainly a limited run device for businesses & developers, TBH. It's also the start of a line that's meant to go head-to-head with the Apple headset, coming next year. Quest 3 will also be out next year, and it's specs have already leaked. It will outperform the Pro, as far as onboard graphics performance, and also have the pancake (folded optic) lenses, as well as AR color passthrough, likely at $400. It will not come with the better controllers out of the box, nor the face/eye tracking.

... which is also actually an interesting point. If you want a Quest that has the features of PSVR2, namely face/eye tracking and the feedback triggers, then you will need to cough up $1.5K. That gives PSVR2 a unique value perspective (if it's under $700). Yes, you won't have wireless, color AR passthrough, nor built-in speakers, but you do get some other next gen features that are not in the baseline Quests.

Holy crap , why is this so pricey compared to the other options?

It’s aimed at business, not gaming. Things like the pancake lenses to make the side profile so thin compared to other headsets and so on. All the main VR headsets have a business package that costs a lot more than just a regular consumer buying it. There was a great video by Norm from Tested a few months ago where he got hands on with all the prototypes in development at Meta. They explain there that these things are currently super expensive to make but will be marketed to businesses first then hopefully as the cost decreases over time, some of the tech will start appearing in consumer devices.

Here is the video from 3 months ago

I don't think that there's a regular Meta Quest forum, and "VR" is too short for the search feature, so posting this here.
