Thinking about getting a new monitor. I currently have a AW3418DW. Was thinking about replacing it with a Samsung G9 or a 48 inch LG CX. I have no actual reason to upgrade other than I get the itch every 3 years or so.

I love the ultrawide format and I'm leaning toward the G9 but the CX is a monster in its own right.

The Samsung G-series are all nice in theory except for the fact that I believe most if not all of them are VA panels.

I finally took the jump and made the purchase upgrade to 1440p/165hz world with the MSI Optix MAG274QRF monitor.

It's supposed to be one of the best, if not the best, IPS monitors in terms of contrast / colours / response time balance. It also supports FreeSync and G-sync which I have never used before. Can't wait to try it out when it should be arriving this weekend.

I got the Viewsonic Elite XG270QG some months ago. It's an 1440p/165hz Native Gsync and Freesync compatible monitor. It was mad expensive. Nearly cost me $700. But damn it's worth the investment. Gsync technology is so amazing, I could never go back to using vsync again.

Technically for Gsync to work properly you still have to use V-sync. Cap your framerate about 5 fps below your monitors max refresh rate and enable V Sync. If you don't enable Vsync you will still get tearing, and if you dont institute a framerate cap you will get the vsync input latency penalty, Both of these are important for proper Gsync operation.

I know this. I have my framerate capped already. I've used vsync with Gsync before and I find it much smoother and still have a tear-free experience without it.

I always thought vsync would introduce more input lag, that's why I play my games without turning vsync on hmm. So you're saying if I cap my fps to 160fps instead of my monitor's max 165hz, there won't be any input lag if I turn vsync on along with gsync?

Correct. Watch the videos I posted above. Very good explanation and instructions.

Finally got my monitor setup complete. My LG ULTRAWIDE Curved 34 inch/NANO IPS/1ms and my Asus ROG SWIFT 1ms. Both Gsync @ 160hz HDR. Technically they can go a little higher in HZ but I want them there for right now.
Good stuff:

Getting a 48" LG C1 delivered on Thursday, very excited to pair it with my 3080. Going to wall mount it as 48" seems a bit too big from where my 27" sits now. Plus I guess it'll be nice to free up all the desk space in front of me where I could maybe put my HOTAS on.

PC gaming really is the ultimate form IMHO. We have a Nintendo Switch and I WAS using it until I bought Animal Crossing for my fiancé' a few weeks ago. Haven't seen my my Switch since and when we were dating years back she said she didn't play video games all that much.....I feel like I was lied to. LOL.

Now I'm relegated to finishing BOTW in ultrawide/HDR and I'm not complaining.
